Pearl Jam become latest act to pull North Carolina gig over LGBT law

Pearl Jam have cancelled a show in North Carolina over the state's recently passed anti-LGBT law.

Bruce Springsteen recently pulled a gig there after the state passed the 'Bathroom Bill'.

The law forces transgender people to use gender-specific restrooms and it has come under fire.

Pearl Jam have now followed suit by calling off their gig in Raleigh on Wednesday (April 20).

The band said in a statement: "The HB2 law that was recently passed is a despicable piece of legislation that encourages discrimination against an entire group of American citizens.

"We want America to be a place where no one can be turned away from a business because of who they love or fired from their job for who they are.

"It is for this reason that we must stand against prejudice, along with other artists and businesses, and join those in North Carolina who are working to oppose HB2 and repair what is currently unacceptable."

While they opposed the legislation, Duran Duran recently confirmed plans to still play in North Carolina to honour their fans.
