P!nk to be awarded the BMI President's Award for Songwriting

Superstar P!nk, whose real name is Alecia Moore, has been confirmed to receive the BMI President's Award for Songwriting

The prize, which recognises "outstanding achievement in songwriting and global impact on pop culture and the entertainment industry", has previously been won by the likes of Adam Levine, Willie Nelson and Taylor Swift.

BMI Vice President Barbara Cane explained the decision to award P!nk with the honour in a statement and said: "Pink is an extraordinary songwriter whose mastery of craft and passionate artistry has transformed a generation of Pop and Rock music culture around the world. She has captivated music lovers with her unforgettable, emotional and edgy magnificence of song, voice and performance."

Back in February, P!nk went nude to show her support for the People's Ethical Treatment of Animals organisation(PETA) and the billboard image was used as part of an anti-fur campaign. Speaking about her involvement, she explained:

"I would like to say I've always been fur-free. Unfortunately, I went through a selfish phase and wore fur on a couple of occasions. But I wised up and now boycott fur completely. I wish everyone was forced to learn the horrors that these animals go through for fashion trends. I hope fur-wearers get bitten in the a** by the same kind of animal they wear on their back."
