MORRICONE YOUTH – "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD" EP RELEASE

New York native Morricone Youth is embarking on an epic two-year venture where they plan to release 15 vinyl and digital LPs and EPs of original and re-interpreted live scores of silent films and midnight movies, beginning with the 6-song EP “Night of the Living Dead” available now. A limited edition pressing of 500 neon green vinyls will be available for collectors and digitally for the rest of us.

Morricone Youth consists of Devon E. Levins (guitar, percussion, glockenspiel, keyboards), John Castro (bass, vocals, keyboards), Dan Kessler (keyboards, percussion), and Kenny Shaw (drums, percussion). Forming in 1999, their mission was to perform and record for film, television soundtracks and library music. Their performances and releases follow a theme from playing shows with projections dedicated to specific composers or film genres in clubs and performance spaces to live scoring films in theaters and art institutions.

“Night of the Living Dead” is available just in time for Halloween to celebrate the original George A. Romero 1968 zombie classic. The release includes two reinterpretations of music from the film along with four originals in the vein of Goblin or John Carpenter. In November, another 6-song EP for “The Adventures of Prince Achmed” (1926) will be released on 150g black vinyl at 33 rpm with a digital card of original Mid0Eastern and West and North African-inspired music featuring concertmaster violinist Conrad Harris of FLUX Quartet and String Noise (Northern Spy) on a track.

Over the years, the band has released a number of CDs of re-interpretations of obscure soundtrack music from the past as well as a score to the film “Silenzio Violento,” recorded and mixed by engineer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans, Dresden Dolls), toured and had residencies at the Knitting Factory, CBGB, Tonic and most recently, Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg. Band members have scored for documentaries and short films and Morricone Youth’s original music has been used in documentaries and television programs.

Morricone Youth will soon be hitting the road on a four-stop tour in the Brooklyn area from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31. For full tour details, visit their website.
