Thom Yorke's new album and single have been downloaded over one million times on BitTorrent.

The Radiohead frontman surprised fans last week by announcing the release of his new album 'Tomorrow's Modern Boxes'.

It can be downloaded via BitTorrent for $6 or £3.68, whilst the single 'Brain In A Bottle' and its video can be snapped up for free.

BitTorrent have now confirmed that the new material has been downloaded over 1.2 million times so far.

This figure includes the paid album as well as the free single.

BitTorrent will receive 10% of the funds from Yorke's sales and the musician said at the time of release:

"If it works well it could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work. Bypassing the self-elected gatekeepers. If it works anyone can do this exactly as we have done."
