Radiohead cancel show after man dies in stage collapse

Radiohead were forced to cancel their show in Toronto last night after a man who was involved in setting up their stage died when it collapsed.

The incident occurred just an hour before gates at the Downsview Park venue were due to open for the 40,000 sell-out show.

Emergency services were called at around 4pm, where one man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene, one person was transported to Sunnybrook Hospital in a serious condition, and two others were treated for minor injuries.

Onlooker Jamie Rivest said: "It was like a tornado hit the stage and in just moments the stage came down with metal everywhere.”

A post on Radiohead’s Facebook page then read: "Due to unforeseen circumstances the radiohead show at downsview park tonight has been cancelled. (sic)

"Fans are advised not to make their way to the venue. Refunds will be made at point of purchase."

Police confirmed that the park was not full at the time of the accident, but that several fans had arrived early to wait for the start of the show. It’s not yet known what caused the stage to collapse.
