Lindsay Lohan stars in R.E.M.'s 'Blue'

Lindsay Lohan features in a cameo performance in the James Franco-directed R.E.M promo, 'Blue', which was recently uploaded onto the band's YouTube page.

The track is taken from the Michael Stipe-fronted group's swansong album, ' Collapse Into Now'.

James Franco, the actor famous for his role in Spiderman, directed the video as part of two promos for their final album. The second promo has yet to surface.

REM called time on their 31-year career in September 2011 after releasing 'Collapse Into Now', their fifteenth studio album, in March of the same year.

The group released a public statement saying they were "astonished at all we have accomplished" in a career that spanned over three decades but, since then, each member of the band has quashed hopes that they will reunite in the future.

Since the break-up, Peter Buck has launched a solo career with a debut track '10 Million BC' hitting the internet this summer (2012).  Mike Mills and Michael Stipe have yet to release solo works.

Stipe said it would be "unfathomable" that he would embark on a solo career after the group's demise.
