SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 25, 2017  --YouCaring, the world's trusted leader in free crowdfunding for personal, medical, and charitable causes, today announced that international pop star Ricky Martin launched a fundraiser on YouCaring to support the victims of hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. 

Puerto Rico was badly hit by hurricane Maria, which plunged the island in darkness, foreseeably without electricity for months, and leaving millions of people without their possessions and, in many cases, unable to communicate with emergency services. Ricky Martin's campaign has raised to date over $300,000.

"Puerto Rico is going through one of the toughest times in its history, and the island desperately needs us," said Ricky Martin. "Hurricane Maria left devastating damage and affected hundreds of thousands - that's why I decided to create this fundraiser to help provide basic needs and rebuild all that was lost. My donation of $100,000 is already in, and I hope I can count on your support."

"If there's anything we learned from recent natural disasters like hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, it's that government support is just not enough and will likely never be," said Maly Ly, YouCaring's CMO.
