Ricky Martin: "I know what it is to be afraid, to be rejected"

Puerto Rican pop star Ricky Martin has opened up about how he has been using his past experiences in the entertainment industry to help contestants on The Voice Australia.

Speaking to an Australian radio station the 'Livin' la Vida Loca' singer praised the show, on which he is judge, by saying: "I'm having such a great time. It's a very beautiful show."

He also detailed his involvement with contestants on The Voice Australia and how he tries to guide them based on his own time in the music business. Martin stated: "To spend time with the artists and share ideas and just let them know what I've done to take it to the next step and what not to do. I've been there; I know what it is to be afraid, to be rejected."

Ricky Martin has been in the music industry since the age of 12 as part of the boy band Menudo. Prior to his breakthrough solo success in 1999 with the number one single 'Livin' la Vida Loca' Ricky Martin released a number of albums sung in Spanish and also appeared on the American soap opera 'General Hospital'.

Talking about his lengthy time as a music star and actor the 41-year-old Martin said: "It got scary, but I started [singing] when I was 12 and all I did was work. At one point I had to step out of the limelight and reconnect. It was beautiful."

Ricky Martin is a judge on The Voice Australia alongside Delta Goodrem, Seal and Joel Madden, formerly of American rock band Good Charlotte.
