Robbie Williams honoured by home city with plaque

Robbie Williams has been honoured by the city of Stoke-on-Trent with a plaque.

The singer is celebrating his 40th birthday on February 13 and to mark the occasion, his home city is holding a series of events.

It has all been kicked off by the unveiling of a special plaque on gates in Tunstall Park, which is near Williams' childhood home.

His parents Jan Williams and Pete Conway joined Stoke-on-Trent's Lord Mayor at an unveiling ceremony.

The city will hold 'Robbie Day' on February 13 and on March 20 it will be decided whether to give Williams the freedom of the city.

Council leader Mohammed Pervez commented: "Robbie is one of our city's most famous sons who is proud of his roots and connections to his hometown. Over the past 24 years he has raised the profile of our city nationally and internationally...it is right that we recognise his achievements."

The singer, however, recently admitted on his blog that he will miss Stoke-on-Trent's celebrations as he will be abroad.
