Sarah Harding doesn't want solo career to be like Girls Aloud's 'pop factory'

Sarah Harding says she is using her solo career to veer away from the "pop factory" nature of her old group Girls Aloud.

The singer is due to release her debut single 'Threads' on August 7.

Its recently unveiled video sees the Brit exhibit a rockier persona and sound.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, Harding said that she wants to dip into a full band ethos where creativity is key.

She explained: "I wanted to really channel my inner rock chick and have more involvement and full creative control.

"With Girls Aloud we were a pop factory. I knew everyone at Xenomania [Girls Aloud's production team] and we were all in and out of different rooms. Doing it on my own was quite scary.

"It's quite important for me to have real instruments playing on the track. I didn't want it to be all electro because I want to be on stage with a band.

"I just don't want to be one of these people going solo that's standing on a stage on their own with a backing track. I'd love to play a festival. I'd love to be able to just get on a stage and rock out."
