Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has unveiled his very first tattoo, which is an eye-catching music-themed piece that now sits proudly on his forearm. 

He took to Twitter and confirmed that the ink is, in fact, very real: "Haha you guys are funny. Yes i got a tattoo, thank you for all the nice comments. @liviatsang is the best."

The tattoo artist he chose, Livia Tsang, who works at Chronic Ink in Toronto, shared a couple of photos of the design on her personal Instagram page and accompanied one of them with the following caption: "Close-up of @shawnmendes' tattoo. Yes, it is real, and no, he didn't cry."

As previously reported, Mendes told ET Canada recently that his new music gives him "goosebumps": "I would say the actual new song is more on the poppier side of the album... I'm so excited about it, even the next couple of singles coming up, I get goosebumps just thinking about it and, like, where the future's headed. As an artist and a creator of music, I'm very proud of my work. I'm very picky."
