Shayne Ward is up for a National Television Award.

The singer is nominated for the Newcomer prize at the TV ceremony.

The former X Factor star is currently starring in British soap Coronation Street as Aidan Connor.

Ward will vie against soap actors Richard Blackwood, Gemma Atkinson and Parry Glasspool for the award.

This year's NTAs are due to be held at London's O2 Arena on January 20.

The singer recently revealed his desire to work with Coronation Street in the future.

Ward said: "I've signed for a year and I guess it's down to general public as to whether I stay after that.

"If they fall in love with the character, if it's going well and the storylines work, then I would absolutely love to stay. I'd be a fool to say that I want to leave - I'd jump at the chance to stay."
