JENNY HVAL shares new video for 'Conceptual Romance'
New album 'Blood Bitch' due Sept 30th via Sacred Bones & UK tour this October! "Let's unchain ourselves from our Instagram, our carefully curated images, trendy record labels & fancy cameras" director Zia Anger explains Jenny Hval's stunning new video.
“Those who are familiar with Hval’s work know she can flawlessly handle the abstract. But she has never been more concrete, nor more open.” – Pitchfork ‘Best New Track’
"Hval's approach has always been equal parts instinctive, intellectual and whimsical, but Blood Bitch confirms her singular methodology is now at its most surgically precise and bold. In realising her uncontainable ambitions, one might even suggest it represents Hval's coming of age." - 8/10 Uncut
Following the release of the album’s highly praised debut singles, ‘Female Vampire’ and ‘Conceptual Romance,’ Norwegian artist Jenny Hval now presents the singularly stunning video for ‘Conceptual Romance’. New album ‘Blood Bitch’ is set for release September 30th and Hval will tour the UK this October. Longtime collaborator and frequent touring member of the band, Zia Anger, who has also directed previous Hval videos, including Apocalypse, girl’s 'That Battle Is Over,', 'Sabbath' and 2013's 'Innocence Is Kinky' describes the video as “a conceptual ménage a trois between Jenny, myself, and cheap tricks. It is a literal burial of the effigies we have created in our video and performance collaborations over the past three years.” Anger expands on the idea behind the ‘Conceptual Romance’ video: “To be reborn in a womb of dirt that once was a grave of death. When I was a tiny child I saw my mother do a performance piece where she wore a skin suit just like the ones in the video. It really disturbed me, to have others see my mother "naked." We've moved from complete and total censorship to a world where you can commodify your body if you resemble a certain ideal. Some people have a choice in this, others do not. We found toy versions of some of the most oppressive, exclusive, phallic equipment there is (a drone and a steady cam) and decided to see what we could make with them. Let's unchain ourselves from our Instagram, our carefully curated images and self-commodification, trendy record labels, and fancy cameras.” Watch ‘Conceptual Romance’ here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY7eLAVrfK4 Embed code: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EY7eLAVrfK4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Co-produced with noise producer Lasse Marhaug, Blood Bitch is “an investigation of blood. Blood that is shed naturally. The white and red toilet roll chain which ties together the virgins, the whores, the mothers, the witches, the dreamers, and the lovers.” It is Hval’s most fictional yet most personal album. It’s out September 30th via Sacred Bones.
