Taylor Swift donates $50k to children's cancer hospital

Taylor Swift has given $50,000 (£30,000) to a children's cancer hospital.

The singer gave the donation to the music therapy unit at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

It has been reported that the money was handed over in 2013, but the 'allocation of funds' has only been made public now.

Hospital CEO Steven M. Altschuler commented: "Taylor Swift's gift will help lift the spirits of many patients during a difficult time. Taylor Swift's music is an inspiration to so many of our teen patients."

Lamia Barakat, director of the Psychosocial Services Program at the cancer centre, said: "We can think of no better way to use her gift than to grow our Adolescent and Young Adult initiative designed to support the emotional well-being of our teens with cancer."

The hospital's music therapy work meanwhile aims to lift the spirits of the centre's cancer patients.
