Taylor Swift on why her female friendships are more important that romance

Taylor Swift talks frankly in today's Guardian about why her female friendships are undoubtedly more important to her than romantic ones due the latter not being possible for her at the moment:

"It just doesn’t seem like a possibility in the near future. It doesn’t ever work. What works is having incredible girlfriends who I can trust and tell anything.”

Swift has recently formed friendships with women such as 'Girls' creator, Lena Dunham and New Zealander singer-songwriter, Lorde.

Her friendship with Dunham began when Swift tweeted in praise of 'Girls'. Then she followed Dunham on Twitter. Swift said Dunham sent her a direct message which she said was: “something like, ‘Can we be friends please?’ And then that was that.”

Her friendship with Lorde blossomed when Swift sent flowers to congratulate her on the release of her debut album. Lorde then got Swift’s number from Tavi Gevinson, the writer, actress and singer, so sent her a long message apologising for once calling Swift “too flawless to be a role model”.  Swift and Lorde got together. Swift said:

“We took a walk and sat in the park and ate Shake Shack burgers.”

Taylor Swift will perform at the MTV VMA's tomorrow (August 24) at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Her new album, '1989' will be release on October 27, and her new single, 'Shake It Off' is out now
