Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' breaks US chart record

Taylor Swift has made a record-breaking debut on a US chart.

The singer unleashed her new single 'Shake It Off' last week as the first track from her upcoming album '1989'.

Billboard have confirmed that it has debuted at No.9 on their Adult Pop Songs chart - the highest new entry ever.

It is also at No.12 on the Pop Songs list, which means that Swift has tied with Mariah Carey for the highest placed debut on the chart.

Billboard have confirmed that 'Shake It Off' is likely to debut at No.1 on their main Hot 100 list this week.

The album '1989' meanwhile will be released on October 27.

It will follow up Swift's hugely successful 2012 effort 'Red'.
