Taylor Swift hits out at 'sexist' critics: 'Men write about their love lives and no one raises a red flag'

Country-pop superstar Taylor Swift has hit out at the individuals who belittle her for penning tracks about her love life because, for a songwriter, it's natural to draw on your personal experience for inspiration regardless of your gender.

When asked by Australian radio show 'Jules, Merrick & Sophie' about people who slam her for relying on her romantic relationships for songwriting material, the songstress explained that male artists do the same thing and rarely get questioned for it let alone criticised:

"Frankly, I think that's a very sexist angle to take. No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says that about Bruno Mars. They're all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life and no one raises a red flag there."

British hitmaker Olly Murs recently laid into Swift for writing about her relationship with One Direction's Harry Styles, but he has since denied being sexist in his approach to the criticism: "There's one thing - I'm not and I've never been sexist, I don't think that's right. It wasn't nice what I said, but it was a joke. I didn't expect it to blow up like it did."
