Taylor Swift becomes New York City global welcome ambassador for tourism

Taylor Swift has been given an ambassadorial role in an effort to promote New York City.

The singer recently moved to the region and it helped to inspire her new album '1989'.

One song on the record was called 'Welcome to New York' and the city's marketing arm NYC & Company have now installed Swift as their global welcome ambassador for tourism.

She commented: "I'm still learning, but I'm so enthusiastic about this city that when I love something, I'm very vocal about it. New York was a huge landscape for what became this album. It's affected my life in ways I'm not even aware of fully."

Swift's new album '1989' meanwhile has topped iTunes charts across the world following its release today (October 27).
