Taylor Swift defends pulling music from 'unfair' Spotify

Taylor Swift has backed the decision to remove her music from Spotify.

The singer pulled her back catalogue from the streaming service after the release of new album '1989' last week.

Spotify themselves wrote a statement encouraging the US star to return to the platform.

Speaking to Yahoo, however, Swift said that she doesn't want to buy into a project which doesn't "fairly" reward musicians.

She said: "All I can say is that music is changing so quickly, and the landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment.

"And I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music."

'1989' meanwhile has become the fastest selling album in the US since 2002.

Billboard confirmed that the record shifted 1.287 million copies in its first sales week.
