Taylor Swift named winner of the inaugural Dick Clark Award for Excellence at the AMAs

'Shake It Off' superstar Taylor Swift has been named the recipient of the inaugural Dick Clark Award for Excellence at the American Music Awards, which will be held this coming Sunday (November 23) at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.

Dick's widow, Kari Clark, explained that "the first time Dick saw Taylor perform, he knew she was something special" and American Music Awards producer Larry Klein issued a statement on the special award and the fact that Swift will be taking it home, telling Billboard:

"It's the perfect time to do it and Taylor deserves it... Taylor was so excited about getting an award named after Dick."

It was also recently confirmed that Taylor Swift will perform at America's iconic Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve event, which is broadcast across the U.S. on December 31. One Direction and 'All About That Bass' songstress Meghan Trainor will also play live.
