Taylor Swift is the only female and only musician to make the Top 10 in MediaGuardian's 100 list

Country-pop superstar Taylor Swift has been included in The Guardian newspaper's MediaGuardian 100 poll as the most influential musician in the UK's press.

The 'Shake It Off' sensation came in at No.10 and is the only musician - and only female - to make the Top 10 this year. The list was compiled by a panel of impressive judges from the world of media.

A statement from The Guardian explained that she was noticed when she decided to remove her music from streaming service, Spotify: "She only came to our attention when she pulled her back-catalogue from Spotify, almost singlehandedly bringing the issue of artist remuneration into the spotlight."

At No.1 is the co-founder and chief executive of Google, Larry Page. No.2 is Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Apple's Tim Cook finished at No.3.

Back in November, Swift pulled her back catalogue from Spotify and told the press that she did it because the company doesn't reward musicians fairly for giving it access to their material:

"All I can say is that music is changing so quickly, and the landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment. And I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music."
