Taylor Swift's '1989' spends eighth week at US No.1

Taylor Swift's new record has spent its eighth non-consecutive week at the top of the US albums chart.

The singer released '1989' in October and it became the first album to sell over one million units in America last year.

It has now been confirmed that the record has just achieved another week at the top of the Billboard 200 by selling 244,000 copies.

This means that '1989' is Swift's longest running No.1 album in the US after her 2008 effort 'Fearless', which spent a total of 13 weeks at the top.

At No.2 on the Billboard chart this week meanwhile is Nicki Minaj's 'The Pinkprint', which sold 160,000 units less than Swift.

Ed Sheeran's second album 'x' is No.3 whilst fellow Brit Sam Smith is No.4 with 'In The Lonely Hour'.
