Taylor Swift to perform at Radio 1 Big Weekend in Norwich

Taylor Swift is the first name to be confirmed for BBC Radio 1's 2015 Big Weekend.

The radio station is bringing its annual music event to Norwich's Earlham Park in on May 23 and 24.

The massive show was confirmed today (January 23) and US star Taylor Swift was the first act announced.

She will take to the main stage at the event on May 24.

Radio 1 commented: "What a year it's been for Taylor Swift. The country starlet turned adorable popstar has everyone falling at her feet since the launch of fifth album - and the best-selling album of last year - '1989'. She's been a friend of Radio 1's for many years - performing at the Teen Awards and most recently wowing the Live Lounge with a cover of Vance Joy's 'Riptide'.

"Not afraid to call out the haters or express her personal experience in song, Swift is a huge-hearted, immensely talented popstar who we are thrilled to welcome to the Big Weekend stage."

Speaking about performing for UK fans, Swift added: "They are rowdy, insane, in the best way - there seems to be a lot of jumping, which I love. Everyone talks about the festivals in England being the best ones you can go to. I feel like I've been missing out - I'm really excited."

Last year's Big Weekend took place in Glasgow and it saw the likes of One Direction, Coldplay and Katy Perry perform.

The event is always free and more acts will be announced soon.
