Taylor Swift donates $50,000 to New York City public schools from 'Welcome To New York' sales

'Shake It Off' superstar Taylor Swift promised that she would donate money from the sales of her track 'Welcome To New York' to NYC's public schools and she has finally delivered.

The beauty donated $50,000 (£32,300) to New York's public education system and Devora Kaye, press secretary of the NY Department of Education, told Billboard that she was touched by the generous financial gift.

Her official statement reads: "We're deeply appreciative of this kind gesture to donate her proceeds of the single 'Welcome to New York' to benefit NYC public schools."

Swift, meanwhile, is up for the International Female Solo Artist prize at the 2015 BRIT Awards, which will take place on February 25 at the O2 Arena in London, and she will go head to head with Beyoncé, Sia, St. Vincent and Lana Del Rey for the title.
