Taylor Swift given ACM Milestone Award by mother

Taylor Swift's mother was on hand to present a special Milestone honour to the singer at this year's ACM Awards.

The country music awards ceremony took place in Texas on Sunday (April 19) as it celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Six stars were given Milestone awards as part of their half-century celebrations, including Miranda Lambert, Garth Brooks and George Strait.

Swift also bagged the prize and she was presented with the award by her mother Andrea.

She said in her introduction: "I've watched this milestone artist from the time she was a tangled-hair little girl, growing up on our farm, full of imagination and creativity until right now when she prepares for her next world tour."

"And ever since then, her favourite thing to do is to write a song, tell a story, play guitar or piano, and I've seen those things carry her through every emotion, every experience in her life, good or bad."

Swift's mother added that she was "very proud" of her child.

The award-giving came only weeks after the singer revealed that her mother Andrea has been diagnosed with cancer.
