Taylor Swift's '1989' tops mid-year US albums chart

Taylor Swift's hit record '1989' is the best selling album in the US so far this year.

The studio effort, which was released in 2014, has topped a mid-year list released by tracking company Nielsen.

The record has shifted an equivalent of 2,011,000 units this year, with 1,328,000 actual sales.

Second on the list is Drake, whose 'If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late' sold 1,431,000 units, with 965,000 sales.

Ed Sheeran's 'x' and Sam Smith's 'In The Lonely Hour' - two records also released in 2014 - have also performed well.

The top digital song in the US so far this year meanwhile is Mark Ronson's 'Uptown Funk', which has shifted 4,883,000 units.
