Taylor Swift cautioned Kanye West over 'misogynistic' lyrics

A rep for Taylor Swift says the singer "cautioned" Kanye West over controversial lyrics about her in a new song.

The rapper unveiled his latest album 'The Life of Pablo' at an event in New York on Thursday (February 11), including the track 'Famous'.

However, referring to West jumping her stage at the 2009 MTV VMAs, it includes the words:

"I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous."

A rep for Swift has now revealed that the '1989' star was approached to plug the track on Twitter - something she declined.

However, the singer warned West about releasing the song due to its lyrics.

The rep said: "Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single 'Famous' on her Twitter account.

"She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, 'I made that bitch famous'."

Model Gigi Hadid, who is friends with Swift, attended the New York event, but distanced herself from the song.

She wrote on Twitter: "My attendance somewhere does not mean I agree with everything being said in the music playing there. My friends know of my loyalty."

Swift's brother Austin also took to Instagram to post a video of himself binning a pair of West's Yeezy Adidas shoes.
