Taylor Swift wins namesake award at the BMI Awards in California

'Shake It Off' songstress Taylor Swift picked up her namesake award last night at the BMA Awards in California.

She was present for the ceremony, which took place at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, and won the gong for being a "creative talent with a global influence on music fans around the world".

Barbara Cane, the BMI vice president of writer/publisher relations, explained that she earned the award for her incredible progression and dedication to her craft: "Taylor Swift has transformed pop culture through her songs, artistry and indomitable spirit."

"She has had a profound impact, not only musically, but also through her personal conviction and commitment to create a standard that values and respects music for everyone. We felt it appropriate to award Taylor with an honour that is as unique and special as she is."
