Taylor Swift says John Mayer is "presumptuous" to think song is about him

American sweetheart Taylor Swift has reacted to the fact that her ex-boyfriend John Mayer thought her 2010 album track 'Dear John' was written about him.

The pair had a brief fling in March 2010 and after splitting, Swift released her record-breaking album 'Speak Now', which featured the aforementioned track and Mayer told Rolling Stone that he was "humiliated" to think that she immortalised their situation in a song:

"It made me feel terrible. Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do. I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call. I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down."

Now, Swift has explained to Glamour magazine that it was "presumptuous" of him to believe that although she won't reveal who it was actually about:

"How presumptuous! I never disclose who my songs are about. I know it wasn't good, so I don't want to know. I put a high priority on staying happy, and I know what I can't handle."

"It's not that I'm this egomaniac and I don't want to hear anything negative, because I do keep myself in check. But I've never developed that thick a skin. So I just kind of live a life, and I let all the gossip live somewhere else. If you go too far down the rabbit hole of what people think about you, it can change everything about who you are."

She added that despite the heartache that often comes with such dalliances, she still pursues love because it's one of the most inspiring and consuming things she has ever experienced:

"Even after it [a relationship] explodes into a million pieces and burns down and you're standing in a pile of the ash of what it once was, thinking, 'Why did I have to meet this person, why did this have to happen?' But then, when you make eye contact with someone across the room and it clicks and, bam, you're there. In love again."
