The Wanted's Max George says label's "discontinuing" was reason why band split

The Wanted singer Max George has stated that being "discontinued" by their record label was the reason why the band are due to indefinitely break up.

The band announced earlier this year that they would be taking a prolonged hiatus after their upcoming March and April UK tour to focus on their own projects.

The band's last album came in the shape of 2013's 'Word of Mouth', which was released via Island Records, and Max George told Female First that he thinks their lack of support led to the band's decision.

When asked what led to The Wanted's split, the singer said: "The label's discontinuing. It didn't really give us a choice, and all of us were in - well, there's nothing to agree on - it's just a fact that we couldn't, there's nothing we could do. We're just put in a position where this has happened, the label have done one more single and then we're on our own, so who's doing what next? There was no other real discussion we could have, which is a shame because, none of us wanted it to happen, but it did and we are where we are."

George's bandmate Siva Kaneswaran meanwhile recently said that he thinks the band's US reality TV show The Wanted Life caused a division in the group. He admitted:

"It caused problems. We kind of lost our sense of team. It became every man for themselves...I want them to be happy in whatever they do. I support them 100 per cent."
