The Wanted to play summer festival

The Wanted have surprised fans by announcing plans to play at a UK festival this summer.

The band revealed earlier this year that they would going on indefinite hiatus after they finished tours of UK and North America in the spring.

However, the group today (May 30) announced on Twitter that they will be performing at Birmingham's Fusion Festival on August 31.

They posted: "Excited to be added to the bill for @FusionFest! Get your tickets NOW."

The announcement backs up quotes given by Jay McGuiness earlier this year that suggested that band would be open to gig offers.

He said at the time: "I think there's going to be more private gigs that we'll be doing throughout the year still. A lot of promoters have probably assumed we've split and won't book us, but we're still open to gigs we're all available for."
