The Wanted's Tom Parker: 'I'm excited to work on my own music'

Singer Tom Parker, of The Wanted fame, has explained that he can't wait to work on solo material because his musical preferences are different to those of the other lads he was in the band with.

He explained to Digital Spy that as a boy band, he had to put his musical tastes to one side and work on whatever was given to them so he's looking forward to stepping out on his own now that The Wanted are on hiatus:

"I played guitar when I was younger and that kind of took a back seat when I was in the band. Obviously when you're in a band like that it's a product at the end of the day, and you're a boy band and that's what you do, even though we'd say, 'We don't wanna dance and we don't wanna do this'."

Parker went onto add that heading into the studio on his own is really exciting as he has some ideas that wouldn't have worked under the title of The Wanted: "Ultimately it probably wasn't a route I would've wanted to go down myself, so it's nice to come out of it and experiment in the studio and do my own thing for a while, which is cool."

Parker also told the site that it was 'impossible' for his group to compete with One Direction:

"For The Wanted to try and compete against one of the biggest bands in the world - One Direction - it's almost impossible. I don't think any band out there can compete with them at the moment."
