The Wanted's Tom: 'We were meant to rival 1D, but they were untouchable'

Hitmaker Tom Parker, formerly of The Wanted fame, has shed a little more light on why his boyband decided to call it a day back at the beginning of 2014.

Speaking to a U.S. publication recently, the singer admitted that he and the other lads were all incredibly shocked when member Max George sat them down and told them he thought the group should split:

"It was a shock. None of the rest of us had a clue. At the time it was difficult."

He added: "There can be tension but we're lads. There'll be a lot of shouting, then it's over and done with."

He went onto confess that The Wanted was never set to last because the boyband they were supposed to rival were untouchable in terms of success: "Deep down I think I knew we'd come to our sell-by date. For every manufactured boy band, there's a shelf life. We were supposed to rival 1D but no one could touch them."
