The Wanted Olympic torch gig suffers ticket mishap

An Olympic torch relay concert due to be headlined by The Wanted has been left with a red face after a ticketing error.

The boyband are performing at the event in Birmingham on June 30, with free tickets for the gig allocated via a ballot system.

However, the BBC reports that Ticketmaster mistakenly emailed every single applicant to say they were successful - despite there only being 20,000 tickets.

As a result, a new ballot will be drawn in due course. A spokesman for Ticketmaster said:

"Due to a data processing error, Ticketmaster incorrectly advised all customers who had entered the ballot for tickets to the London 2012 Olympic torch relay special city celebration in Birmingham that they were winners in the ballot."

They continued: "All customers who originally entered the ballot have been informed of the error and that all tickets previously claimed have been invalidated. In the interests of fairness to all applicants the ballot has now been declared void."
