The Wanted have opened up on their highlight of 2012.

The group have had a packed year so far, breaking America with sold-out shows and TV appearances before having something of a feud with One Direction over Twitter.

However, singer Siva Kaneswaran is quoted by the Mirror as saying that meeting Michelle Obama was their favourite part of 2012.

The wife of US President Barack Obama is said to be a big fan of the group, with the First Lady telling them that she regularly listens to The Wanted. Kaneswaran said:

"The highlight of our year so far has been meeting Michelle Obama. She was so normal with us. She told us that The Wanted were on her playlist."

He continued: "I'm sure we're on her 25 Most Played on her iPhone."

The Wanted meanwhile recently revealed that their new album should be released in spring 2013.
