Tulisa loses Lucy Spraggan from The X Factor

Tulisa Contostavlos has expressed her regret over losing X Factor contestant Lucy Spraggan from the competition.

Singing hopeful Spraggan - who has pulled out of the hit TV talent show due to illness - missed last week's live shows and was automatically put through to the next round of the competition.

Now the singer-songwriter feels it would be unfair on the other contestants to miss another week of performing on The X Factor.

X Factor execs released the news via their Twitter account today:

"@LSpraggan isn't well enough to perform this weekend so she has decided to withdraw from the competition… We are all sorry to see her go and wish her all the best for the future. She has been a fantastic contestant." #XFactor (sic)."

In an official statement via her @OfficialTulisa page Tulisa explained: “I’m so sorry to lose Lucy from the competition, I have had a brilliant time working with her and I hope I can continue to mentor her in the future.

She continued: "I now count her as a friend as she is an amazing girl and I am sure she is heading for great things.”

Spraggan also spoke out publicly on her decision to quit the live shows.

She said: "I am gutted not to be able to continue on this journey but I'm not well enough to perform. To accept another free pass having missed last weekend would not be fair on the others in the competition. I wish them all well.

She added: "I would like to express my thanks to everyone who has supported me. There is no way that this setback will prevent me from fulfilling my ambition. You'll be hearing from me again very soon."

Tulisa now has one female act left in the competition - Ella Henderson. Jade Ellis was voted off in last week's show.
