Victoria Beckham to launch new line of colourful aviator glasses

Spice Girls sensation Victoria Beckham has teamed up with lens manufacturer Zeiss and a host of other specialists to create a brand new line of colourful aviator spectacles.

Speaking to Women's Wear Daily about the project, which will be on sale in Barney's of New York, the superstar explained that she's excited to expand her brand in a new direction: "It was important for me to evolve existing styles and develop new pieces for my retail partners and my own store and web site, and we now have the ability to do this."

"For me, it is about the line continuing to expand and incorporating the best materials and techniques possible. It is an exciting time for the category."

The eyewear pieces will be available from $550 for basic styles and they go up to $1,255 for 18-karat gold adorned frames. This new line is set to launch in September this year at the eyewear trade show, Silmo Paris.

Beckham, meanwhile, recently confessed that as her career as a designer has progressed, she has become much more confident about her own style and look: "When I first started, I used to wear a lot of tight dresses. Lots of heels. And I still do dress like that, but I suppose, as time has gone on, I've loosened up a bit. I'm busier now - so I couldn't totter around in a tight dress and a pair of heels! I think I feel a little more relaxed."
