The North London rapper, who scored both a number one single with ‘Don’t Go’ and a Top 5 album with 'Black & White' last year, told the Lancashire Evening Post that the reaction to his recent material initially took him by surprise:

“I never ever thought I’d have a Top Ten in my life, if I’m honest. I always thought maybe an album would do well. So then Traktor literally just comes out and goes to Number Five and it was at that point where it was like, OK, we understand now, you can do both.

"That’s when I felt like I was actually taken a bit more serious. But I wouldn’t say that, straight away, everyone was like, yeah yeah, hats off."

The 27-year-old, who last month unveiled the video for his collaboration with Ed Sheeran, went onto describe the impact his number one single had on his career:

“And when Don’t Go went to Number One, it was like....this is Number One! It’s a funny feeling, like, this is it, you couldn’t get any higher. I remember thinking to myself, this is a Number One record!

“We signed the deal and the label said, ‘Look, 40,000 albums and we’re happy, we’ve recouped and we’re good to go. So I’m thinking, OK, I don’t know how we’re going to get to that but we’ve got to get to it. But after the Number One, the game kinda changed because now it’s like, well, we don’t think you’re going to do 40,000 anymore..., we think you’re going to do something else!'"
