For Immediate Release - Black Panda PR - New York, NY - May 19, 2015 - Atlanta born and Brooklyn fancy singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sarah Kervin is internationally recognized as a soloist, guest artist, composer, and bandleader by DownBeat Student Music Awards, the Jazz Education Network Composition Award, and research grants in vocal pedagogy from the Magellan Program. She has performed with great artists such as Jon Hendricks, the Manhattan Transfer, Ben Folds, the Fort Worth Symphony, and Afro Blue.

One of Sarah’s artistic turning points came while working with Peter Eldridge (New York Voices) on her debut album, Passing Through. Their exploration inspired her move to New York and her move from strictly writing and performing jazz to singer-songwriter, leading to the creation of the material on Into the City, her upcoming sophomore album.

Her music is influenced by the complex harmonies of jazz, the inspired messiness of gospel, the melancholy passion of the blues, and raw honest storytelling. Both Dizzy Gillespie and Sara Bareilles, her music has history, soul and the optimism of a small town girl making her way in the big city.
Sarah is excited to begin a new partnership with the Joyful Heart Foundation to advocate for domestic violence awareness.

The album’s premiere single and video, "The Least You Could Do," is a story set to music about learning to trust yourself again.

"As a victim of abuse, I thought what was happening to me was my fault -- that if only I did this or that differently, it would all be ok. Putting those emotions into this song helped me realize that I had to trust my instincts and find ME again. It’s hard to start the conversation about domestic violence, sexual assault, and abuse, especially with yourself. But only by raising our collective voices can we make a difference," she comments.

All proceeds from the sale of “The Least You Could Do,” now available on iTunes - NEW SINGLE (CDBaby too), will go towards the Joyful Heart Foundation.  Sarah joins Bess McCrary at the Cutting Room NYC on May 26 in support.
