Listen to Toddler (Kangding Ray remix) here

Tracklist
a1 Inchworm (Silent Servant remix)
b1 Toddler (Kangding Ray remix)
b2 Dominican Fade (Qluster remix)

Out on 12" vinyl 19th March
____________________________________________________________________

- SILENT SERVANT (INCHWORM REMIX):
Real name John Juan Mendez from LA/Minneapolis,Silent Servant has been holding it down in the west coast scene for some time now. Releasing numerous anthems on the mysterious Sandwell District label, SS was an obvious choice for us. We wanted something that will sound like a religious epiphany at 9am in Berghain.......and that is exactly what we got! Best tracks: "Doom Deferred", the "Hypnosis In The Modern Age" 12" and "Violencia (function remix)" - John Stanier

- KANGDING RAY (TODDLER REMIX):
We wanted to use KR because his atmospheric dark textural music sounds big and creepy in giant clubs and we wanted to see if that vibe could be conveyed in a remix of one of our songs. KR most definitely delivered. Awesome tunes include the Pruitt Lgoe 12" and the OR LP both on the Raster-Noton label. - John Stanier

- QLUSTER (DOMINICAN FADE REMIX):
First time caller, long time fan. Our jaws dropped when we reached out to Qluster to see if they would be interested in doing a remix for the song "Dominican Fade" and they were kind enough to oblige. Yes, Qluster (aka Cluster, Kluster), the experimental German electronic group consisting of core members Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Mobius—absolute living legends! It has been a truly humbling experience to have one our songs remixed by Qluster for they have always been a genuine source of inspiration for Battles. - Dave Konopka
____________________________________________________________________

2011 was an incredible year for Nicki, with her multi-platinum selling debut album PINK FRIDAY boasting the most charted singles by any female rap album in Billboard history. Nicki also became the first artist to have 7 singles on the Billboard HOT 100 chart simultaneously. She criss-crossed the US playing to massive sell-out audiences with friend and mentor Lil Wayne on the sold–out “I Am Music II” tour and then slayed audiences as the special guest on Britney Spear’s US tour. In addition to winning Best Hip Hop Video at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards along with Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Album and Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist at the 2011 American Music Awards, Nicki was recently nominated for three Grammys for Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album.

Nicki’s feverishly anticipated new Young Money/ Cash Money album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded”, will be released on April 2nd, featuring her brand new single “Starships” which was produced by multiple Grammy-winning producer, musician, and songwriter, RedOne, whose 35 international hit singles include a staggering 18 #1 singles, for the likes of Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Usher, and Mary J Blige, to name but a few. “Starships” shows Minaj headed straight into clubland territory - that means heavy synths, an infectious chorus and fist-pumping breakdowns.

With 3 million albums sold globally, 15 million likes on Facebook, 8.5 million followers on Twitter and a profile that is rising by the day, 2012 looks like being an even bigger and better year for this 5’ 2” phenomenon.

One Love Peace Festival 2012 Line-up Announced

SUNDAY 15TH JULY 2012 – MABLEY GREEN, LONDON

One Love Peace Festival, the UK’s number one urban music festival, returns in spectacular fashion with the announcement of a stellar line-up across two massive stages that are set to transform East London’s Mabley Green into a tropical fairground on Sunday 15th July 2012.

Hip-Hop powerhouse Diddy will headline the event on The Contemporary Stage, performing hits from an illustrious career in music that has spanned two decades and garnered four Grammy awards. Special guests from renowned rap label Bad Boy will also join Diddy on stage with past and present members of the highly celebrated roster reuniting in a landmark festival exclusive.

With 2012 marking the 15th anniversary of Notorious B.I.G’s untimely passing as well as a year that would have seen the first star of Bad Boy celebrate his 40th birthday, Diddy, his mentor, will also be performing a special tribute to the late star as part of an extended set at the One Love Peace Festival.

Rap royalty and Rock and Roll hall of famer Rev Run will also take to the decks on The Contemporary Stage at this year’s festival where the front man from seminal hip-hop group Run D.M.C will spin an unmissable mix of old school classics and new school hits with some explosive surprises along the way. Widely credited for ushering rap music into mainstream culture, Rev Run completes the legendary offering at this year’s event as two of hip-hop’s crossover vanguards bring the festival to an explosive close.

Waving the British flag on The Contemporary Stage will include homegrown star Chip (Chipmunk) with Grammy-award-winning artist T-Pain bringing his three-ringed circus to East London in his first ever UK festival performance.

Headliner Diddy said: “I’m thrilled to be performing at the One Love Peace Festival, its gonna be a party unlike anything you’ve ever seen. I really can’t wait to get to the UK as London is one of my favourite cities and I’m a real big fan of UK rap so I’ll definitely be checking out artists like Chip on the day. I’m also hoping I’ll get to meet Prince Harry while I’m there! He seems like a cool guy to hang out with in the club.”

The Heritage Stage at this year’s festival reaffirms the event’s well-preserved roots in reggae and will be headlined by Bunny Wailer, hailed as one of the genres forefathers and an original member of legendary group The Wailers alongside Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. Joining him on the heritage line-up will be reggae heavyweights Barrington Levy, Capleton and Luciano as well as club favourite Khago alongside a whole host of international stars who will unite to celebrate ‘Jamaica 50’; 50 years of Jamaican independence.

The Rifles - London Weekender (30-31st March)

Due to a huge live demand, plus eager anticipation for their excellent new album ‘Freedom Run’ and full UK tour, The Rifles have announced three headline March shows at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire and The Troxy in London, plus The Ritz in Manchester. This offer is strictly limited to the first 200 tickets via the band’s website, so speed is advised. Bookings for the individual gigs are also available at Live Nation and The Rifles' site.

Confident that ‘Freedom Run’ marks their best LP yet and a creative coming-of-age, The Rifles make a bold statement in booking these large venue headline shows, further sealing their reputation as one of the UK’s biggest bands with a massive, devoted following.

Praise for 'Freedom Run' album

"Songs like this could take the band to another level" The Guardian

"As long as the band continues then The Rifles’ fans will keep coming back for more" Clash Music

"It’s not often that you’re so blown away by an album that you’re left speechless" Popped Music

On September 19th, Essex five-piece The Rifles present ‘Freedom Run’, their much-anticipated third studio album. From opening track ‘Dreamer’s blast of romantic, timeless-yet-fresh guitar pop, it’s immediately clear ‘Freedom Run’ is a record that finds The Rifles in fine fettle and bristling with energy. Confident, concise and vital, the band have upped their songwriting ante into a fine craft, with a driving spirit and unified soul that’s clearly audible.

With absolutely zero filler and potential singles aplenty, ‘Freedom Run’ signals a band for whom this appears to be only the beginning. With a huge fervent following and the ability to sell out Brixton Academy, The Rifles have long since outlived their original peers.

"Even though this is our third album, in many ways it feels like our first", says Joel. "It’s definitely a progression". Rebirth and change are themes that re-occur throughout the album, typified on the reflective indie jangle of ‘Long Walk Back’.

The album’s first single ‘Tangled Up In Love’ had already picked up plays in its early stages by Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton Radio 1, plus XFM due to its summery romanticism and killer hook. ‘Eveline’ is an equally classic song and marks the album’s first respite from energised anthems, with its yearning early 60s-style folk rock meets Merseybeat.

The pounding, piano-driven ‘Love Is A Key’ kicks things back up a notch, with yet another hugely strong song; a prime example of a positive, sincere group lacking in the arch self awareness of many new bands.

‘Falling’ takes things down a slightly psychedelic tangent, sounding like the lovechild of first album Stone Roses and Doves. Ever the MODS, the Phil Spector-esque ‘Nothing Matters’ is a nod to the scene of which their heart lies, that musically they’ve transcended.

Similar to when early 60s R&B combos discovered acid and pot, The Rifles’ minds have been expanded, evident on the epic penultimate track ‘Little Boy Blue (Human Needs)’. It sounds like an interstellar jam between The Who and Hawkwind, spiked by Lemmy’s speed stash.

‘Freedom Run’ was recorded at Paul Weller’s studio, Black Barn and produced by the legendary Chris Potter (The Clash, The Stones, The Verve). The album also marks a personnel change, with Lee Burgess and Kenton Shinn (of the band Garda) replacing Grant Marsh and Rob Pyne. "Things have developing brilliantly with the new boys Lee and Kenny", says Joel. "We believe we’ve so much we can bring in the future. It really does feel very positive".

DJ Adam J featuring Master Shortie 'We Came To Party’

The search for summer 2012's classic floorfiller may well be over before it's begun with the release of ‘We Came To Party’ by DJ Adam J featuring Master Shortie. This infectious, lavishly produced anthem dedicated to having a bloody good time has “soundtrack to the summer” written all over it, and is set to have clubbers everywhere shouting “Ay Yo! We came to party!” all summer long.

DJ Adam J adds ‘We Came To Party’ to an already illustrious career, in which he's worked with just about every big name in urban music, from R&B veterans like Faith Evans, Damage and SWV; through the garage years with the likes of So Solid Crew, DJ Luck & MC Neat and the Artful Dodger; and remains bang up to date with modern giants of the urban scene like Akon, Tinie Tempah and N-Dubz.

Dividing his time between the UK and the glamorous Dubai club scene, DJ Adam J is about as credible as they come, with columns in all the top DJ magazines and a raft of awards under his belt, including the Time Out Dubai Night Life Award for Best Urban Night for his residency at No. 1 Fridays in 2010 and 2011.

The luxury and decadence of Dubai's notoriously hedonistic nightlife infuses the vibe of ‘We Came To Party’ through Master Shortie's irreverent vocals - this track is the perfect showcase for Shortie's charismatic style, and the carefree party posturing of the lyrics tells you everything you need to know – Master Shortie is on fire right now.

As an artist who has seen his share of the harsher side of the urban music industry, having survived the collapse of his US record label just as his MOBO-nominated debut album was set to break the mainstream in 2009, Shortie's once promising sound has matured into something slick, polished and genuinely special, and behind it is a musician who truly revels in delivering great music. Of his journey and artistic evolution over the past three years, Master Shortie says:

“I now know there are no winners in this business, there are just survivors who love music... And I love music and that is what drives me to do what I do”

Shortie's maturity as a performer gives ‘We Came To Party’ the perfect vibe - it's got swagger without ever tending towards obnoxiousness, and ticks all the urban dance hit boxes without being cliched. Blended sublimely over DJ Adam J and the Nightcrashers' uplifting and contagious beats, the result is a track that justifies instant classic status, and can only signal massive things to come for Master Shortie.

‘We Came To Party’ is the first release on the electrifying new label Nightcrasher Records and will be available from 14th May.

The feature will run between March 26th - 30th and will also feature on the BBC Radio 6 Music website and audio links and interviews are available upon request.

Shropshire born Chris Hawkins has broadcast around most of the BBC regions, but his life with BBC6 Music has pretty much revolved around London. When news came through that his sparkling new studio was ready, he decided there was nothing else for it than to move lock stock and two smoking broadcast quality mic’s to the North West with his family.

As the move edged closer, Chris began to think more about life in the North West and especially around the Manchester area. What’s the best local food? Do I need to buy a round? Does The Ivy have a Manchester restaurant?
