Opening track and title song Mission features the voice of Open Mic UK finalist Rosie Shann, accompanied by flamenco styled guitars topped over the group’s standardly funky beats. The percussion heavy Walk This Street starts of as a classic breaks track, sounding not too dissimilar to something sampled from the golden age of hip hop and making it ideal night or day.

This is a more brooding sound for Films of Colour, themed around the paranoid side of relationships. It’s an emotion that hits everyone at some stage. Lead singer Andy’s introspective plea in the chorus ‘You can stop my heart or keep it running’ is met with an anthemic chant from the rest of the band. 'Running' swells from it's subtle start to it's big finish.

The band have recently announced they have started work on their highly anticipated debut album with legendary producer Gil Norton. They are currently home in Brooklyn working on the record and this will be released late Summer 2012, on Vertigo Records.

The debut Debukas EP firmly planted him as one to watch, with four tracks that explored underground electronics with a pop sensibility and grounding in classic house and techno.  This new seven track EP continues down this route with his rich analogue sound and soulful vocals again taking centre stage.

The originality of his music stands out with the use of his voice combining as riffs, fx and melodies alongside the more traditional lyrics, and from his well stocked studio of vintage synths and drum machines where he has been honing his craft and developing a sound which is as much indebted to Arthur Russell and Gino Soccio as it is Underground Resistance and Model 500.

The Pleasure Patterns EP explores the outer edges of 4/4 club transmissions with the locked in groove of 'Loads Of Time' and the muscular synths of 'Rings', hitting an almost disco feel with 'Golden Mind'.  Drops the tempo for the loose and percussive 'Titanic' and trippy, hypnotic vibes of 'Send Me Out' and 'Knowledge' showcases some deft drum programming and vocal editing for futuristic disco dance floors.  It's left to Pional to round the EP off with his remix of 'Golden Mind'.  He spots the disco feel of the original and filters it through some Madrid sunshine into a dreamy house epic.  We've been fans of Pional for some time, and he's currently riding high after his two collaborations on the John Talobot album which are arguably the finest tracks on the album.

Debukas has recently featured on Mary Anne Hobbs' XFM show with a DJ mix and she has played three tracks from the EP on her show.  He's also remixed indie darlings Spector, label mates Crazy P and the new single by Drums Of Death.  His live show, which features a trimmed down version of his studio and live vocals, is now hitting the road including a Crazy P support slot at Koko on Saturday 17th March.  Already working hard on his debut album, this EP gives you an indication of what to expect from the all singing, all producing Debukas.

The new single 'Oneseome' is already winning huge radio support from BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4, and is playlisted on both Q Radio and NME Radio.

For ‘Onesome’, the first track taken from I Am Harlequin’s forthcoming EP, Anne has created a beautiful, hook-laden and heartfelt call to going it alone;

“Onesome is a love song to oneself. I was fed up with relationships when I first wrote it and believe that respecting and liking yourself has to come first. If 'Rhine Gold' hews closely to the template of its predecessor, it expands on it in every way. Now a proper band, the collaborative dynamic has imbued their sound with more authority and daring, as Choir inhabits a wholly unique space where intimate folk, classic Krautrock, big-sky Americana, avant-garde composition and bombastic theatricality seamlessly serve the same master. Like Choir’s music, Makrigiannis’ powerful voice unifies the ambitious scope of Rhine Gold by sounding at once dolorous and magisterial. The rich, enveloping production does wonders to corral such creative largess under a unified, sepia-toned song cycle.

Rhine Gold begins with the patient unfolding of 'The Third Time' which doesn’t reveal its Orientalist flair until a third of the way in. 'Patricia’s Thirst' follows with a brief, perfect pop moment, before 'Sedated' weighs in with a ‘70s soundtrack feel and the scheme of subtly shifting backdrop of sounds, from playful piano and backwards passages to gentle rain. 'Paralyse' offers cosmic, motorik exploration, with an acoustic interlude for good measure. Wistful ballad 'Have I Ever Truly Been Here' is Rhine Gold’s devastating melodic, emotional centre. Bass and cello provide the unlikely backdrop to the album’s most outre hook on 'Paint New Horrors'. A chamber orchestra and spectral female voices soak 'The Wind Is Blowing Needles' in minor-key melancholia. The album culminates in 'Rhine Gold’s namesake track, deploying strings, piano and digital effects to summon mounting tension; A fitting conclusion to this complex and beautiful release.

Born and raised in Manchester, David Shaw is today based in France. His cultural duality has had a profound influence on his music, and allowed him to create an original identity somewhere between techno and indie, he, who never wanted to choose between guitars and machines. As producer, writer/composer and performer, he has distinguished himself on the independent scene through various projects such as his own: Siskid (Initial Cuts, Meant Records), Animal Machine (Meant Records) and collaborations: Blackstrobe with Arnaud Rebotini and Ivan Smagghe (Beggars Banquet).

Today he's back with a new single, 'Infected', the  first extract of his album to be released on Her Majesty's Ship. This song is a cover of The The, released in 1986. David Shaw gives it a brand new interpretation, but without losing its catchy eighties pop mood. The remixes are delivered by two great acts in electronic music: JD Twitch from Optimo fame and offer a brilliant old school flavoured version. The other from Max Pask, half of Populette, offers a sweaty epic 12 - minute long version, ideal at sunrise after a long night of dancing.

Having battled their way through regional auditions after being selected from 2,500 entries in a public online vote, thirteen Next BRIT Thing finalists performed in front of a panel of celebrity judges and an audience of thousands on Monday 5th March 2012 at the IndigO2 in Greenwich, London.

After stiff competition, the judges; pop band McFly, operatic tenor Noah Stewart, best-selling soprano Laura Wright and managing director of Columbia Records Mike Smith, chose winners in three different categories:    19-year old Northern Irish singer-songwriter Paul Shevlin won the General Category with his original melodic piano led songs. This category was open to all genres. Paul wins a recording session at the world-famous Abbey Road.

"I'm really humbled to have been selected from such a standard of artists on the night.  Being a massive Beatles fan I cannot wait to get into Abbey Road studios - it's a bit surreal!" said Paul Shevlin. 

BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor said, “All the performances on the night were truly inspirational, showing the real breadth of musical talent from Britain’s young performers.  Paul’s performance was astonishing – a star in the making and a true natural performer.  He’s a worthy winner of our first Next BRIT Thing national competition and I look forward to hearing his Abbey Road recording.”

16-year old classical piano player Sarah Gardner from Stockton-on-Tees near Middlesborough won the Classical Category. As a prize she will get to perform at the Royal Albert Hall as part of Classic FM’s Autumn Concert, recorded for broadcast.

Laura Wright congratulated Sarah, “The whole event was fantastic, there was an incredible amount of talent on stage, not one act let the competition down. Sarah stood out to me as the classical winner immediately.  She played with such confidence and composure for someone so young, and her performance of the Ravel was truly breathtaking. I wish her and all the rest of the finalists the best of luck with their future's, it was a joy to be part of The Next Brit Thing!"

South London, female-fronted rock band Floodliners were victorious in the Songwriting  Category, sponsored by PRS for Music. They will receive a songwriting session in addition to the share of £10,000-worth of instruments from Roland UK with the other winners.

Launched in Summer 2011, Next BRIT Thing - www.nextbritthing.com - looked for young musicians in any genre to share their performances, compete in online charts and perform live. The competition was open to all 11-19 year olds whether in formal education or not.  In all, some 36,000 young people registered to get involved and the website attracted over 100,000 unique users.  More than 2,500 entries were made by young people uploading tracks, which were voted upon during a two-month period prior to Christmas 2011. After 60,000 votes were cast, a long list of performers to audition in one of ten regions emerged.  
Organised by the BPI, with the support of the record industry and the sponsorship of the Department for Culture, Media and Sports and the Department for Education, Next BRIT Thing has brought together all elements of the industry including artists, labels and industry bodies including the Performing Rights Society and the Music Industries Association and sponsors, Peavey and Roland. It offers young people the opportunity to engage with the music industry, develop their music talent and enjoy the shared experience of being part of a national event.

PRS for Music specifically recognised entrants to Next Brit Thing whose submission either in the pop or classical genre, is an original work. Over a thousand Next Brit Thing entries were original compositions underpinning the vast creative young talent across the UK.

This summer, Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway’s Vintage Festival is back on 13th-15th July and have teamed up with the award winning Festival producer and live music business MAMA Group to transform the stunning stately home, Boughton Estate in Northamptonshire, into the capital of British culture and cool.

Having won awards for Best New Festival for its inaugural ‘Wilderness’ event last summer, MAMA Festivals, the Festival division of MAMA Group, will be bringing all of its production and promotional expertise to the Vintage Festival, obtained through years of experience of producing sell out Festivals such as Global Gathering, Lovebox and The Great Escape, as well as Wilderness.

For one glamorous weekend, toasting classic style from the past 70 years of music, fashion, film, art, design and food, Vintage is set to offer a truly unique festival experience for 2012.

Vintage promises an opportunity to enjoy some of the finest elements of British culture. Whether it’s learning the dances of the decades, boogying along to tunes of an incredible DJ set, having a decade specific makeover or taking advantage of the Vintage High Street and Vintage Marketplace, brimming with independent retailers and renowned brands from past to present, it truly is a creative feast for all the ages.

Wayne Hemingway MBE says: “Having won the title of UK’s Best New Festival, Vintage is back and bigger than ever for 2012. We’re going to create a mecca for everyone to come and celebrate the ‘Best of British’ culture and want the UK to join us.

“This summer is the ‘summer of culture’ for the UK with events such as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Cultural Olympiads. I’m really looking forward to Vintage this July to see everyone glammed up and hunting for those vintage finds in our enormous Vintage Marketplace and outlasting each other on the dancefloors of our six brilliant designed nightclubs.”

Celebrating a range of musical genres, styles and capturing some classic sounds, get ready to hear some of the finest names in musicianship at Vintage in 2012, including Sergio Mendes of ‘Mas Que Nada’ fame & his orchestra, Aloe Blacc, Chic Ft Nile Rodgers, Nouvelle Vague performs Dawn Of Innocence, Baxter Dury, Betty Wright, Alice Russell and St Etienne.

The immersive set dresses of the Vintage nightclubs will each be dedicated to a different decade and feature real dancefloors and sound systems. We’ll have 1940s swing, 1950s rock n roll and 1960s pop, easy listening and mod culture, 1970s soul, reggae, funk and disco classics and warehouse rave, boogie and house culture from the 1980s. Truly something for everyone.

Torch Club – 1920s-40s entertainment with Ondrej Havelka and his 15 piece Melody Makers, the world’s leading 40s exponents hailing from the Czech Republic, James Langton, Jivin Miss Daisy and dozens more of the world’s most authentic performers all curated by Snowboy.

Let It Rock - Brings rock culture with The Damned, The Polecats, Alien Sex Field, DJ’s Keb Darge, Gaz Mayall and Jay Strongman. Hosted by leading brands such as Gaz’s Rocking Blues, Shake, Rattle & Bowl and Lady Luck.

Leisure Lounge – Taking us back to the 60s is Buddy Greco, Secret Affair, The Sorrows, Mike Flowers Pop plus sessions curated by Guilty Pleasures, Club de Fromage, Count Indigo and a DJ set from Martin Green.

Soul Casino – 60s and 70s northern soul, funk disco and reggae sounds feature live performances from The Impressions, Junior Murvin performing “Police & Thieves”, Lonnie Liston Smith and Smoove & Turrrell and iconic Soul Casino DJ’s performing exclusively together Searling & Roberts from the Wigan Casino and Levine & Curtis from the Blackpool Mecca, as well as DJ sets from Don Letts, Craig Charles and The Soul Casino’s curator Eddie Piller and more.

Warehouse Party – Bringing the 80s rave, house and boogie culture to Boughton Estate will be DJ’s Norman Jay, Danny Rampling, Horse Meat Disco, Greg Wilson, Terry Farley, Graeme Park, DJ Milo, Sub Club vs Back to Basics and dozens more.

Fashion, glamour and head-turning style is at the heart of Vintage Festival, offering delights from the 1920s through to the 1980s. ‘Best in Show’ catwalk shows will run all weekend featuring the Vintage crowd sporting best taches, hairstyles hats, frocks and suits.

Fashionistas can get stuck into sewing or pattern cutting workshops and have the chance to spot iconic creations from the some of the most influential fashion designers. All this before heading to the enormous Vintage Marketplace which plays host to over 250 of the finest purveyors of vintage clothing, accessories homewares and collectibles. A series of inspiring high-profile catwalk shows is soon to be announced.

With possibly the largest vintage hair, beauty and male grooming parlour Britain has ever seen, Vintage will ensure that all visitors feel fabulous and look glamorous 24/7. Offering women hairstyling and make-up touch ups, from Farrah Fawcett’s 1970s iconic wings to new romantic curls, 50s D.A. and the classic 60s bouffant beehive, there’s no excuse not to get into the spirit of things.

Art and design will remain a dominant feature this year, with numerous opportunities to get creative, whether painting, designing, learning a new skill or reviving an old one, experts will be there to help. If getting hands on is not your bag then there’s always the chance to see some vintage British design classics. With exhibitions featuring archived memorabilia from furniture and technology to timeless cars and motorbikes.

Vintage will also be celebrating the future as well as the past. Last year we were joined by a whole host of ‘Future Predictors’ including Marc Newson, Miranda Sawyer, Thomas Heatherwick, and Kevin McCloud. This year we hope to expand on this even more on this.

The vintage film scene will also take pride of place on the Boughton Estate to showcase some of the most iconic, stylish films, TV shows and documentaries from 20s silents to 80s horror.

Quality food is very much part of the Vintage festival. Vintage transports visitors, via their taste buds, to the tastes and eating habits of days gone by. At Vintage you can sample the flavours of the period as authentically as possible with historically linked eating opportunities, not to mention some wicked period cocktails from the bars. In the backdrop of the Torch Club, dance classes and a mind-boggling list of performers luncheon and dinner will be served, with a fine dining menu that really takes you back to the best of the 1940s! Expect more of this throughout the festival.

Tickets for this year’s Vintage Festival are priced at £139 for weekend adult camping, £89 for weekend young person camping, £125 for weekend non-camping and £75 for weekend young person non-camping. Children, up to and including 10 years old, go free.

MR MITCHELL RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE 'ON THE ROOFTOP'

Mr Mitchell, the East London based rapper, is back with new single 'On the Rooftop', and an EP set for release this Summer.

Mr Mitchell was originally one-half of the successful rap duo, The Mitchell Brothers who, as 'struggling musicians' seized a chance opportunity with Mike Skinner at a bank in Brixton, by slipping a CD of their music into his back pocket. Their antics paid off when, in 2004, they were signed to Skinner’s (The Streets) record label, The Beats. In 2005 they released their debut album ‘A Breath Of Fresh Attire’ to positive reviews. The album was seen as one of the most innovative albums of the year, adding kudos to their song-writing skills in particular. Singles released during their height included 'Routine Check',  'Alone with the TV' and 'Harvey Nicks'. They released a follow up album 'Dressed For The Occasion' in 2007, but parted ways in 2008 after a split from The Beats.

During their five years together, The Mitchell Brothers' determination and love of their craft, led them to gain huge experience, from supporting on-stage the likes of 50 Cent, Nelly, John Legend, Bloc Party, Fun Loving Criminals, Calvin Harris and The Streets. In  2011 Tony Mitchell returned to music, reinventing himself as Mr Mitchell. He released his first solo track titled 'Off The Coathanger' which which was shortly followed by his first solo mixtape 'The Night I Thought I Was A God”. In 2012 Mr Mitchell continues to write, perform and release music as a solo artist, with the first offering, 'On the Rooftop' released 25 March.
