Out Monday: Fantom48 - Mission EP

Mission EP is the latest/ debut release from Sheffield based Fantom48. Layering carefully crafted beats under chilled out vocals which are reminiscent of Ian Brown’s melodic spoken word style. The EP is full of trip hop inflections and solid bass lines and the group wear their influences on their sleeve confidently knitting together a love of breaks, house, funk and dub.

Opening track and title song Mission features the voice of Open Mic UK finalist Rosie Shann, accompanied by flamenco styled guitars topped over the group’s standardly funky beats. The percussion heavy Walk This Street starts of as a classic breaks track, sounding not too dissimilar to something sampled from the golden age of hip hop and making it ideal night or day.

For fans of laid back, groove driven pop with a distinctively British edge.

Films of Colour celebrate new single 'Running' at SXSW 2012

On 16th April, Films of Colour release their next single, Running//Creature of Habit, marking their first time collaboration with producer YILA. Both tracks were recorded at London’s The Fish Factory studios and saw the band creating an even more spacious sound. The song follows previous releases Actions and Capital/Persinette that both achieved significant radio and media support from 6 Music, XFM and Los Angeles station KCSN’s new music show Passport Approved. Their more recent cover of David Bowie’s Slow Burn picked up extensive national airplay and won huge critical acclaim internationally (including an endorsement from Bowie himself!) landing them at the top of many tip lists for 2012.

This is a more brooding sound for Films of Colour, themed around the paranoid side of relationships. It’s an emotion that hits everyone at some stage. Lead singer Andy’s introspective plea in the chorus ‘You can stop my heart or keep it running’ is met with an anthemic chant from the rest of the band. 'Running' swells from it's subtle start to it's big finish.

Currently in the studio tracking new songs for their debut album due later this year, Films of Colour can be seen at the following dates on their return from SXSW with more Festivals to be announced over the coming months.

VANQUISH

If dancefloor-filling power pop sung by gorgeous girls is your thing, then look no further than Britain’s hottest new band Vanquish. Already tipped by the pop press, 2012 will be the year that Bee, Holly, Lizzy and Rianna take over the charts.

Having spent the last year recording their debut album - working with Ivor Novello award winners Rob Davis (Kylie, Sophie Ellis-Bextor) and Jorgen Elofsson (Britney, J-Lo, Kelly Clarkson), and master tunesmith Wayne Hector (30 number 1 hits, including 7 for Westlife) - and performing to huge audiences including a starring role at Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model Live, Vanquish are now looking forward to the release of their first single ‘The Harder You Love’. A thrillingly propulsive pop-dance track with a defiant attitude ‘The Harder You Love’ sets the tone for their album and promises to be a highlight of their thrilling live shows.

And now Vanquish are excited to announce that they will be supporting Westlife on the band’s twenty nine date arena tour. On hearing that Westlife had chosen Vanquish to support them the girls were, understandably, delighted!

Lizzy: 'To be supporting Westlife on their final UK Arena tour is an amazing feeling! We feel honoured to be part of this. We are going to bring fun, excitement and some powerful Vanquish pop songs to the tour. Can’t wait to get on stage!! '

Bee: 'It's a dream come true to be going on an arena tour supporting a band as successful as Westlife. They've made a huge impact on the pop world and have had such a long career, it's a real privilege to be touring with them and we're all massively excited to hit the road!'

Holly: 'I just can't believe it... It still hasn't sunk in! To be touring the UK with my best friends as Vanquish girl band, and supporting one of the biggest boy bands of all time is completely mind-blowing... It's something I've only ever dreamed of. I feel like the luckiest girl alive!'

Rianna: 'I can't express how grateful and appreciative we are to be supporting Westlife on their final tour. I have grown up listening to Westlife and watched them bosh out hit after hit. To be sharing this with them is incredible. We are four extremely lucky ladies. I can't wait..''

INFO:

Bim are London pop duo Rebecca Rosier and Denmark Davis. The duo released debut album Scatterheart in late 2010 (all written, performed and produced by Davis & Rosier), which received unsolicited press as one of Peter Robinson's top five underground pop bands in NME and featured as Band of the Day in The Guardian. They gathered over 1 million hits on YouTube, sat between Mark Ronson and Faithless at no.6 in the iTunes electro chart, and shared bills with Yasmin and I Blame Coco.
The duet have carved their own sound into the pop landscape, balancing what true songwriters do best; wearing and sharing the personal and physical emotion of their words and sticking them fast with pop hooks. Top electro blogger EQ says: "The album isn't your usual electro-pop fodder either, it's mixed with shimmery ballads and real songs that warm the soul and touch the heart." Instinct magazine agrees "it's cinematic, emotional and, in a year of ballad-less albums, pushes beneath the surface".
Their sound bridges gaps from piano duets to rock - inspired by Bjork to Deftones and back to Britney - all squeezed into a package that they make pop. Q Magazine add to the mix, "a little bit Saint Etienne, a little bit Massive Attack" while describing Bim as the magazine's 'Net Big Things'.
There's a slick DIY attitude about Bim. They're unsigned, but you wouldn't guess it. Behind the scenes are two of the most dedicated and hard working songwriters, performers, singers, producers, directors, ... , ... , ... , you'll ever meet.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOR MORE INFO & PRESS REQUESTS CONTACT -
0044 [0] 207 199 0109 e: rob@visionmusic.co.uk

--------------------------------
VISIONMUSIC PROMOTIONS

Debukas Announces ‘Pleasure Patterns' EP (26th March) on 2020 Recordings

Download album track 'Titanic' here

The debut Debukas EP firmly planted him as one to watch, with four tracks that explored underground electronics with a pop sensibility and grounding in classic house and techno. This new seven track EP continues down this route with his rich analogue sound and soulful vocals again taking centre stage.

The originality of his music stands out with the use of his voice combining as riffs, fx and melodies alongside the more traditional lyrics, and from his well stocked studio of vintage synths and drum machines where he has been honing his craft and developing a sound which is as much indebted to Arthur Russell and Gino Soccio as it is Underground Resistance and Model 500.

The Pleasure Patterns EP explores the outer edges of 4/4 club transmissions with the locked in groove of 'Loads Of Time' and the muscular synths of 'Rings', hitting an almost disco feel with 'Golden Mind'. Drops the tempo for the loose and percussive 'Titanic' and trippy, hypnotic vibes of 'Send Me Out' and 'Knowledge' showcases some deft drum programming and vocal editing for futuristic disco dance floors. It's left to Pional to round the EP off with his remix of 'Golden Mind'. He spots the disco feel of the original and filters it through some Madrid sunshine into a dreamy house epic. We've been fans of Pional for some time, and he's currently riding high after his two collaborations on the John Talobot album which are arguably the finest tracks on the album.

Debukas has recently featured on Mary Anne Hobbs' XFM show with a DJ mix and she has played three tracks from the EP on her show. He's also remixed indie darlings Spector, label mates Crazy P and the new single by Drums Of Death. His live show, which features a trimmed down version of his studio and live vocals, is now hitting the road including a Crazy P support slot at Koko on Saturday 17th March. Already working hard on his debut album, this EP gives you an indication of what to expect from the all singing, all producing Debukas.

I AM HARLEQUIN RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘ONESOME’ ON MARCH 12th PLUS KILLAHURTZ REMIX

Recently named number 17 in the Last.fm New Discovery Charts, I am Harlequin is the creation of German-born, London-based musician Anne Freier who writes, records and produces all her own music.

The new single 'Oneseome' is already winning huge radio support from BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4, and is playlisted on both Q Radio and NME Radio.

For ‘Onesome’, the first track taken from I Am Harlequin’s forthcoming EP, Anne has created a beautiful, hook-laden and heartfelt call to going it alone;

“Onesome is a love song to oneself. I was fed up with relationships when I first wrote it and believe that respecting and liking yourself has to come first. I know a lot of people who cannot be by themselves, and perhaps I subconsciously wrote it to give them a little encouragement. Being alone has its perks.” I Am Harlequin

The accompanying remix by renowned dubstep producer Killahurtz takes ‘Onesome’ further, pushing the track towards a celebratory dance explosion;

"I am Harlequin is a brilliant new talent, her voice as quirky and unique as her sense of style. I've always been a fan of original bands like The Cure, The Smiths, etc, but not so much recent band-based acts. I Am Harlequin captures that calibre of originality in sound and fashion that I believe it takes to become a truly credible artist.

It was a pleasure to work with and remix her material, above all I look forward to hear what's to come from her and remix her next big song, listen to her!" Killahurtz

Following acclaimed performances throughout 2011, including at Music Week Breakout, The O2 Sessions, Liverpool Sound City, Boardmasters Festival, Brighton Festival, and Last.fm Last Friday’s, 2012 is looking set to be a huge year for Anne Freier and I Am Harlequin.

“I can't wait to see what's going to happen in 2012. The last year has already been so exciting. There's a lot more going on in terms of releases and videos this year and besides all of this I am also planning my first little commercial line of clothing. Bring on 2012!” I Am Harlequin

‘Onesome’ is released on March 12th, ahead of I Am Harlequin’s debut EP due out this summer.

Choir Of Young Believers - Live session video of upcoming album's title track + new release date for 'Rhine Gold' album out 9th April (Ghostly International)

Recorded in Denmark, this ethereal session captures the haunting grip of the band's new album, 'Rhine Gold' (out 9th April on Ghostly International). The seven piece perform echoe-ing title track in a solitary, white mansion surrounded by leafless trees and jagged bushes.

Choir of Young Believers, led by Jannis Noya Makrigiannis, garnered an imposing number of accolades in their Danish homeland for a debut full-length, 'This Is for the White in Your Eyes'. Rolling Stone said "Founding songwriter Jannis Noya Makrigiannis, manages to sound utterly alone — singing in cold echo with the high, keening melancholy of the Zombies' Colin Blunstone and the Neil Young of ‘A Man Needs a Maid,’" while Under The Radar says "With one foot firmly planted in the realm of orchestral pop, the other dipping its toe into ‘50s pop-song structures, Makrigiannis crafts a Spartan but cinematic world of melody and melancholy." 'This Is For The White In Your Eyes', signalled the arrival of a powerful new talent, possessed of a fully formed vision, arch compositional ingenuity and a tenor to die for. 'While White in Your Eyes' racked up overwhelmingly positive international press, it can practically be seen as a soft launch for Choir of Young Believers’ masterful 'Rhine Gold' out 9th April on Ghostly International.

If 'Rhine Gold' hews closely to the template of its predecessor, it expands on it in every way. Now a proper band, the collaborative dynamic has imbued their sound with more authority and daring, as Choir inhabits a wholly unique space where intimate folk, classic Krautrock, big-sky Americana, avant-garde composition and bombastic theatricality seamlessly serve the same master. Like Choir’s music, Makrigiannis’ powerful voice unifies the ambitious scope of Rhine Gold by sounding at once dolorous and magisterial. The rich, enveloping production does wonders to corral such creative largess under a unified, sepia-toned song cycle.

Rhine Gold begins with the patient unfolding of 'The Third Time' which doesn’t reveal its Orientalist flair until a third of the way in. 'Patricia’s Thirst' follows with a brief, perfect pop moment, before 'Sedated' weighs in with a ‘70s soundtrack feel and the scheme of subtly shifting backdrop of sounds, from playful piano and backwards passages to gentle rain. 'Paralyse' offers cosmic, motorik exploration, with an acoustic interlude for good measure. Wistful ballad 'Have I Ever Truly Been Here' is Rhine Gold’s devastating melodic, emotional centre. Bass and cello provide the unlikely backdrop to the album’s most outre hook on 'Paint New Horrors'. A chamber orchestra and spectral female voices soak 'The Wind Is Blowing Needles' in minor-key melancholia. The album culminates in 'Rhine Gold’s namesake track, deploying strings, piano and digital effects to summon mounting tension; A fitting conclusion to this complex and beautiful release.

"Fans of the Bon Iver school of album mythology will like the style of indie veteran Jannis Noya Makrigiannis." The Guardian

"Choir of Young Belivers will likely make believers out of listeners who may come to depend on them for the rare kind of fearless, emotionally raw but musically soaring pop." Prefix

"…majestic and haunting in the best sense." The Onion’s AV Club

David Shaw and The Beat 'Infected EP out now (5th March) + Free download 'Money Community'

To celebrate today's release of the 'Infected' EP, David Shaw and the Beat are giving away an edit of 80s track 'Money Community'. Download it here

Born and raised in Manchester, David Shaw is today based in France. His cultural duality has had a profound influence on his music, and allowed him to create an original identity somewhere between techno and indie, he, who never wanted to choose between guitars and machines. As producer, writer/composer and performer, he has distinguished himself on the independent scene through various projects such as his own: Siskid (Initial Cuts, Meant Records), Animal Machine (Meant Records) and collaborations: Blackstrobe with Arnaud Rebotini and Ivan Smagghe (Beggars Banquet).

Today he's back with a new single, 'Infected', the first extract of his album to be released on Her Majesty's Ship. This song is a cover of The The, released in 1986. David Shaw gives it a brand new interpretation, but without losing its catchy eighties pop mood. The remixes are delivered by two great acts in electronic music: JD Twitch from Optimo fame and offer a brilliant old school flavoured version. The other from Max Pask, half of Populette, offers a sweaty epic 12 - minute long version, ideal at sunrise after a long night of dancing.

UPCOMING DJ sets (before discovering the new live band in April 2012) :
Friday, February 24th in Paris, Hansel und Gretel
Saturday, February 25th in Brussells, The Wood

Following a six month nationwide search for the best in young UK musical talent, last night three unsigned artists were crowned winners of Next BRIT Thing - a national music competition for 11-19 year olds backed by the UK music industry, The BRIT Awards and the Government.

Having battled their way through regional auditions after being selected from 2,500 entries in a public online vote, thirteen Next BRIT Thing finalists performed in front of a panel of celebrity judges and an audience of thousands on Monday 5th March 2012 at the IndigO2 in Greenwich, London.

This category was open to all genres. Paul wins a recording session at the world-famous Abbey Road.

BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor said, “All the performances on the night were truly inspirational, showing the real breadth of musical talent from Britain’s young performers. Paul’s performance was astonishing – a star in the making and a true natural performer. He’s a worthy winner of our first Next BRIT Thing national competition and I look forward to hearing his Abbey Road recording.”

16-year old classical piano player Sarah Gardner from Stockton-on-Tees near Middlesborough won the Classical Category. As a prize she will get to perform at the Royal Albert Hall as part of Classic FM’s Autumn Concert, recorded for broadcast.

Laura Wright congratulated Sarah, “The whole event was fantastic, there was an incredible amount of talent on stage, not one act let the competition down. Sarah stood out to me as the classical winner immediately. She played with such confidence and composure for someone so young, and her performance of the Ravel was truly breathtaking. I wish her and all the rest of the finalists the best of luck with their future's, it was a joy to be part of The Next Brit Thing!"

"It was an amazing night in front of a fantastic audience with some very tough competition. The opportunity to perform at The Royal Albert Hall is a dream come true for me. All this and I got to meet McFly too." said Sarah Gardner.

South London, female-fronted rock band Floodliners were victorious in the Songwriting Category, sponsored by PRS for Music. They will receive a songwriting session in addition to the share of £10,000-worth of instruments from Roland UK with the other winners.

"Last night's show was sick! It was great to perform at such a cool venue with all the other talent and it was brilliant that we won our first ever award! Whoo! Its nice to be recognised for what we love to do!" said Floodliners’ 15 year-old bass player Georgia South.

Launched in Summer 2011, Next BRIT Thing - www.nextbritthing.com - looked for young musicians in any genre to share their performances, compete in online charts and perform live. The competition was open to all 11-19 year olds whether in formal education or not. In all, some 36,000 young people registered to get involved and the website attracted over 100,000 unique users. More than 2,500 entries were made by young people uploading tracks, which were voted upon during a two-month period prior to Christmas 2011. After 60,000 votes were cast, a long list of performers to audition in one of ten regions emerged.
Organised by the BPI, with the support of the record industry and the sponsorship of the Department for Culture, Media and Sports and the Department for Education, Next BRIT Thing has brought together all elements of the industry including artists, labels and industry bodies including the Performing Rights Society and the Music Industries Association and sponsors, Peavey and Roland. It offers young people the opportunity to engage with the music industry, develop their music talent and enjoy the shared experience of being part of a national event.

MR MITCHELL RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE 'ON THE ROOFTOP'

Released: 25 March via Paramount Music

Mr Mitchell, the East London based rapper, is back with new single 'On the Rooftop', and an EP set for release this Summer.

Mr Mitchell was originally one-half of the successful rap duo, The Mitchell Brothers who, as 'struggling musicians' seized a chance opportunity with Mike Skinner at a bank in Brixton, by slipping a CD of their music into his back pocket. Their antics paid off when, in 2004, they were signed to Skinner’s (The Streets) record label, The Beats. In 2005 they released their debut album ‘A Breath Of Fresh Attire’ to positive reviews. The album was seen as one of the most innovative albums of the year, adding kudos to their song-writing skills in particular. Singles released during their height included 'Routine Check', 'Alone with the TV' and 'Harvey Nicks'. They released a follow up album 'Dressed For The Occasion' in 2007, but parted ways in 2008 after a split from The Beats.

During their five years together, The Mitchell Brothers' determination and love of their craft, led them to gain huge experience, from supporting on-stage the likes of 50 Cent, Nelly, John Legend, Bloc Party, Fun Loving Criminals, Calvin Harris and The Streets. In 2011 Tony Mitchell returned to music, reinventing himself as Mr Mitchell. He released his first solo track titled 'Off The Coathanger' which which was shortly followed by his first solo mixtape 'The Night I Thought I Was A God”. In 2012 Mr Mitchell continues to write, perform and release music as a solo artist, with the first offering, 'On the Rooftop' released 25 March.
