THE CULT TO RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM ‘Choice of Weapon’ in May 2012 + World Tour Details Coming Soon

One of the finest British rock acts to have enjoyed worldwide success over the last few decades, The Cult has wrapped up recording ‘Choice of Weapon’, the group’s first studio album in five years. Released on 21st May 2012 in UK (and May 18th in Ireland) on their new UK label Cooking Vinyl, its 10 tracks reveal the band at its rawest and most visceral, encapsulating cinematic visions and themes of love, revolt, and redemption. Fans can get an early taster of the album from 2pm on Tuesday 31st January when the track ‘Lucifer’ will be available as a free download through the band’s website www.thecult.us. Details are being confirmed for a worldwide tour and will be announced soon.

‘Choice of Weapon’ is the follow up to the critically-acclaimed 2007 release ‘Born Into This’ that the UK’s Mojo magazine called “a wholehearted, utopian and irrefutably exciting record." Long-time Cult collaborator and producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush) - who produced one of The Cult’s most successful albums, the platinum-certified ‘Sonic Temple’ - put the finishing touches on the foundations that were laid by co-producer Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, U.N.K.L.E., Masters of Reality).

The record was written by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, recorded in New York City, Los Angeles, the California high desert, and the band’s Witch Mountain studios in the Hollywood Hills between July and December 2011. The new release features founding members Astbury on vocals and Duffy on guitars, with drummer John Tempesta and bassist Chris Wyse. "We have had the opportunity to work with two of the most influential and talented producers in the world today,” said Astbury. “They pushed us beyond our comfort zone, and helped us craft ‘Choice of Weapon.’”

The album is aimed at the heart of The Cult's loyal following. It reflects the current discontent and destruction of our eco systems, the search for individual meaning against a tide of rampant materialism, narcissism and disconnected lives. “We went deeper . . . we worked a bit harder on this record. We have great fans and they deserve our best,” added Duffy, “and I feel this is one of our best records, maybe the best.”

The album is released as a special edition fan pack on May 14th, followed by digital and double vinyl on May 21st (May 18th in Ireland) and the CD and deluxe CD’s on June 4th (June 1st in Ireland) .

The tracklisting is as follows:

Honey from a Knife / Elemental Light / The Wolf / Life > Death / For The Animals

Amnesia / Wilderness Now / Lucifer / A Pale Horse / This Night In The City Forever

Bonus CD tracks:

Every Man And Woman Is A Star / Embers / Until The Light Takes Us / Siberia

Cormac O Caoimh announces brand new album details 'A New Season For Love'

Taken from 'A New Season For Love'- the brand new album. Out: April 27th

Cormac O Caoimh is a singer-songwriter and classical guitarist from Cork, Ireland. He is also a former member of ‘The Citadels’, who received critical acclaim on various releases over the last 10 years. His debut solo cd "Stark a spark" was released in 2007 and received glowing reviews. For his new album "A New Season For Love" he re-united with ex-bandmates Art O Laoire and Eoghan Regan, who also were in The Citadels.

O Caoimh has picked up some well-known admirers along the way including Ron Sexsmith and Tom Robinson (BBC) and has supported fellow luminaries; Damien Rice (in the Paradiso, Amsterdam), Declan O Rourke, Josh Rouse, Mark Geary, Nick Kelly, Miles Hunt and Damien Dempsey to name but a few. He also ventured further afield playing headlining gigs and slots in Edinburgh, London, Amsterdam and New York. His solo live performances vary between fast and frenetic indie-pop acoustic guitar playing, slower tunes heavily influenced by his classical guitar playing background and jazz influenced folk music tunes.

An admirable songsmith, each track from his forthcoming album “A New Season For Love” contains a catchiness and accessibility at their core that outweigh any stylistic definition. Though he may be likened to the hypnotic Nick Drake, or the inverse Elliot Smith; it is his slow and gradual soft low-key vocal delivery that inspires repeat listens. A New Season For Love is the new single and it is released March 16th.

Tour dates to be announced soon.

Vocals and Acoustic Guitar: Cormac O Caoimh

Keyboards: Art O'Laoire

Electric Guitar: Eoghan Regan

This album has been funded by various contributors over on Fundit.ie- of which Cormac expresses his utter thanks: http://www.fundit.ie/project/cormac-o-caoimh---a-new-season-for-love

A Message from The Rev…

So we’ve been away for a minute. Well more than a minute. Truth be said I fancied a bit of time out the bear-pit for half an hour to get myself a bit of a holiday, and well, calm the fuck down n enjoy myself a bit. Not that I sat completely on my arse for the best part of two years. Errrr…. (I’ve kind of forgot what you’re supposed to talk about in a post even though I decided to write one!!!)

I’ve been a few mad places in Asia, Africa and South America, which was unbelievable. I bought some daft instruments while I was away too, none of which I can play but they look right good in my house. I did a bit more with Afrika Express. If you don’t know what it is then check it out at www.africaexpress.co.uk. It’s a thing Damon Albarn set up and it’s fuckin’ amazing. I did a little gig with Mick Jones from The Clash at The Leadmill and I got up and sang ‘Bankrobber’ with him, which was a proper buzz. Mostly though, I had a sound system with my mates Jimmy Welsh and Matic Mouth which was mega. We threw house parties and warehouse parties, and generally got daft doing parties for nish, until we got a bit too daft and the police started turning up to every do we had, so we knocked that on the head and I decided I might fancy getting back to the day job…

I just kind of fell into writing this album by accident and the next thing was it was nearly finished. I’m bang into it, which you’ll all expect me to say. But I enjoyed making it more than any album I’ve made so far. It’s all up and mainly bangers, so we had a right old laugh in the process. Special thanks go to Ed the Pilot and Jimmy and his Onkens. The album is being produced by a combination of Jason Cox and James Dring (Gorrrilaz, Good the Bad & the Queen) and Youth (The Verve, U2), and for what it’s worth there’s no politics on the album. Why not? Well as much as I’m into all that and I still believe much the same, I’ve said it now and it quickly becomes boring if you labor the point too much. In truth I sort of bored myself with it. I’ve taken down the Che Guevara poster for this album; you may or may not be glad to know. So we have some new band members who have joined as well. Ryan Jenkinson on drums who used to play with a band I used to be into called This Girl. On bass we have borrowed Joe Carnall from the Book Club. Check them out they are ace (www.facebook.com/pages/Joe-Carnall-The-Book-Club). Joe was the singer in Milburn, who were the band that kinda kicked off the Sheffield thing a few years ago, so I’m made up to have them both play with us.

The album’s out before the summer and will be preceded by a tour supporting Noel Gallagher on his arena dates around the UK. We are well looking forward to it, and hope we’ll see you there. If not I hope you might catch us on our own headline tour later in the year…

Nice one, ta for reading and good to be back. The Rev x

NEW SINGLE: ‘THE WOLF IS GETTING MARRIED’ RELEASED FEBRUARY 27th

NEW ALBUM: ‘HOW ABOUT I BE ME (AND YOU BE YOU)?’RELEASED MARCH 5TH 2012 ON ONE LITTLE INDIAN

‘On form, focussed and fervent again’

The Guardian 28th November 2011

Unique Irish singer-songwriter and performer Sinéad O’Connor releases her brand new studio album ‘How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?’ through One Little Indian on March 5th 2012. The album is preceded by the single ‘The Wolf Is Getting Married’ on February 27th.

Her ninth studio album, and the latest release in a career spanning 25 years and millions of record sales worldwide, ‘How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?’ is as showstopping a performance as her silver jubilee deserves, and ranks as one of her best and most confident pieces of work so far.

Produced by long-term collaborator John Reynolds, its ten tracks play like an encyclopaedic definition of O’Connor’s oeuvre: songs about love and loss, hope and regret, pain and redemption, anger and justice. This is an album of consistently moving, exciting, brilliant and beautiful songs built around Sinéad’s voice at its very best – raw and passionate.

The album contains original tracks all self/co-written bar one cover of John Grant’s ‘Queen of Denmark’.

Sinéad has been playing new songs from the album at a series of critically acclaimed live shows this year at the Manchester International Festival, Iceland Airwaves and, most recently, at Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions - a performance that the Evening Standard called ‘extraordinary’ and awarded a five stars review.

Sinéad will be touring her new album internationally in 2012, UK dates as follows:

Pepsi's Return to the Super Bowl is Fit for a King

PURCHASE, N.Y., Jan. 30, 2012 -- PepsiCo today released details about its iconic Pepsi ad to air during Super Bowl XLVI, which will be broadcast on NBC. Pepsi also announced digital partnerships that will enhance fans' Super Bowl experience on-line.

The new ad titled "King's Court" features Melanie Amaro, THE X FACTOR 2011 winner, singing for multi Grammy-winning music legend Sir Elton John who plays a "king of rock" in the commercial. The ad was produced by TBWA/Chiat Day and directed by Noam Murro. During the commercial, Amaro performs a song she recorded exclusively for the ad, a contemporized version of RESPECT, by Otis Redding, and made popular by the "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin. Pepsi fans who "Shazam" the spot during the big game will be able to view Amaro's music video for RESPECT.

Set in a rock-fantasy version of medieval times, the 60 second commercial features Melanie Amaro performing in front of a "royal court of rock," including Elton John's character, the King. The ad establishes Pepsi as the brand for people who are not afraid to take a chance, raise their voice and give it their all. It also highlights the fact that Pepsi has an irresistible taste worth challenging a king for. With epic Pepsi scale and a big dose of humor, the commercial ends with a twist and the tagline, "Where there's Pepsi, There's Music."

TRIBES confirm Dublin Academy 2 show on May tour

Tickets priced €13.00 inclusive of booking fee are on sale this Friday 3 February from Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.ie.

Tribes once consisted of two opposed bands, or as one could say, Tribes. Johnny Lloyd and Dan White on one side of the naval-gasing Radiohead-obsessed track, and Miguel Demelo and Jim Cratchley on the other. Although they’re quick to sniff off any lazy suggestion that the name was birthed there.

“When we arrived in Camden, we think for some reason we were expecting some vague fragments of a indie band culture or something,” the frontman says, shaking his head. “But I actually remember looking around us and realising we were in the supposedly indiest place on planet earth and there were literally no bands. Jim mentioned the name Tribes as it part of the name of a book he was reading, and it just seemed very apt for our setting and state of mind.”

The boys set about they work with the same scurrilous drive and rambunctious soul that’s defined their rise to become Britain’s most talked about scene savers. After it took Frank Black but a single gig and a single demo to invite them out to support, it took only few more pub efforts for the Mystery Jets to invite them undo their wing and onto a road-testing psychedelic voyage of the nation several times over, including climactic slots at the Somerset House and resulting in literal riot scenes when the band’s own tour wound up at London’s XOYO.

The single ‘Sapho’ is showcases Tribes’ emphatic musical blueprint: thundering rhythm section and brimstone guitars, giving way to sweet woozy melodies and tales of loverlorn abandon. ‘We Were Children’ is the kind of unflinching anthem that any generation would be proud to take as an ode: all rasping chants, and raging power chords, truly the stuff the teenage dreams are made of. Since its release the airwaves have been alive with its romantic riot, a more befitting entrance soundtrack it’d be hard to find.

Tickets for Tribes live at The Academy 2 are on sale this Friday 3 February from Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.ie

The Dø // Janelle Monae Cover + MYLO Remix Available to Download Now

The Dø are Olivia, the O in The Dø and Dan is the D. The Dø rhymes with ‘d'oh’, as in Do, Re-Mi-Far-So...They’ve already had a Number 1 album in France with stunning debut ‘A Mouthful’, and now France’s best kept secret, The Dø are set to conquer the UK with the release of their sophemore album 'Both Ways Open Jaws'.

With a new single in the works and a handful of stellar upcoming remixes The Dø would like to share these two lovely tracks with you:

Sream The Dø's Cover of Janelle Monae's 'Tight Rope' here -
http://soundcloud.com/thedo/tightrope-janelle-monae-cover/

Download Mylo's Remix of 'Gonna Be Sick' here -
http://soundcloud.com/bangonpr/the-do-gonna-be-sick-mylo

Technically accomplished and full of rich orchestration and electronic flourishes, The Dø manage to keep a lightness of touch and an instant pop appeal, no doubt thanks to Olivia’s bewitching vocals and song-writing skills.

Oliveia veers from the primal, invoking the spectres of Fever Ray and Bjork with the percussion led ‘Slippery Slope’, replete with tribal chanting, and lead single ‘Too Insistent’ with its tirelessly catchy propulsive melody, to the childlike; her sweet vocals offsetting the unsettling imagery on opener ‘Dust It Off’, and the nursery rhyme rhythm of ‘Bohemian Dances’ a little reminiscent of Joanna Newsom and CocoRosie.

Expect to be hearing a lot more of the pair as the year goes on.
