On-U Sound & Village Underground presents Dub Sessions Vol 1 Adrian Sherwood // Africa Hitech // Kwesachu // Ross Allen - 13th JULY

The legendary producer delivers a live dub DJ set plus Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek perform their electronic diaspora project. Michachu and Kwes do a live mixtape with a worldly wise blend from DJ Ross Allen.

For more than three decades, Adrian Sherwood has been quite probably Britain’s most consistently ground-breaking producer. In the process, he has wrought his wizardly magic upon such internationally acclaimed artists as Blur, Nine Inch Nails, Sinead O’Connor, The Cure and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, as well as coining countless mind-melting new sounds with legendary acts such as Tackhead and Mark Stewart, whose influence is ongoing and, to this day, omnipresent.

Sherwood has always preferred to operate in the shadows, where his creative integrity is least threatened by the all-corrupting ludicrousness of the pop mainstream. Largely left to his own devices, he has built up a colossal body of work, whose staggering diversity – after launching off from reggae and dub, he duly innovated with electro, industrial noize, various world musics, and much else besides – somehow never eclipsed his own identity, nor diluted his unique bass-quakin’ sound.

Nearly nine years ago Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek began bonding over their shared passion for the seemingly disparate spheres of bubbling Detroit techno, soul and fierce Jamaican digital dancehall. Africa Hitech is the moniker which represents both Steve and Mark’s love for all things progressive within music, whilst acknowledging that the roots of much of today’s popular music can be traced directly back to Africa.

Another devious duo of leftfield pop artist Michachu and musician and producer Kwes, DJing as Kwesachu. This collaboration started in 2008 with the release of the Kwesachu Vol 1 mixtape – 50 minutes of cassette tape which proved that both artists were a match made in skewed pop heaven, and gave birth to ‘free pop’ – a philosophy of creating popular music that knows no boundaries, shuns no eccentricity and values inventiveness over any kind of rules that have gone before.

Holding everything down is Ross Allen, a man of many talents and one of London’s most well known faces on the music scene. Whose Sony award winning radio show ‘Destination In’ for GLR lead to him becoming Gilles Peterson’s occasional stand-in for his Worldwide show. In his capacity as A&R he has signed and worked with Peshay. Tom Middleton, Talvin Singh, The Stereo MC’s, Lady Sovereign and The Sugababes.

O Children Premiere Video for 'Chimera' On Noisey.com

New album 'Apnea' due out on 4th June via Deadly People, single released 11th June.

www.och4lyf.tumblr.com

www.deadlypeople.net

“This album deserves all the praise it will undoubtedly receive” Notion

“A direct, powerful work” Clash

“A welcome reminder of O Children’s doomy aesthetic” The Fly

In the run-up to the release of new album 'Apnea', there's a lot happening in O Children's den, with the 'Chimera' video premiering, the album streaming and Fred from Spector donating an unusual album review to the Twittersphere.

Firstly their propulsive, dramatic pop single 'Chimera' now has a brand new video, which has just premiered over on Noisey.com. Set for release on 11th June, this compelling and understated track is driven by frontman Tobi O’ Kandi’s sonorous vocals - the longing contained within them accentuated by the video's hazy and wonderfully disjointed lost-love narrative.

'Chimera' is the first single to be taken from O Children's forthcoming sophomore album Apnea, due out on 4th June via Deadly People.

Earlier this week NME.com posted a full stream of 'Apnea', hear it in it's entirety HERE.

And in a bizarre twist, Fred Macpherson from Spector took it upon himself to tweet a heavily stoned track by track review to 'Apnea'. And very funny it is too, read it HERE.

Taking in krautrock, garage rock, post-punk and West Coast melodies, 'Apnea’ represents a distinct new chapter in the band's career, O’ Kandi has taken production influences from a variety of genres and their sound has richly developed from their 2010 debut.

The album also represents the culmination of over 2 years of torturous travails as O’Kandi found himself “essentially stateless, stuck here, a prisoner in England”.

Having played a string of warm up dates for Vice in March and with a series of Great Escape appearances under their belt, O Children will headline Hoxton Bar & Kitchen for their album launch before making their debut on European shores later this summer.

Upcoming UK dates:

Thursday 7th June - Album Launch w/Savages @ Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, London get tickets
O Children are Tobi O'Kandi (vocals), Gauthier Ajarrista (keys), Harry James (bass) and Andrew Sleath (drums).

Chris Cornell heads out on unplugged tour post Download Festival

"Sometimes you don't recognize the full power of a voice until you strip everything away from it. Such was the case with Chris Cornell's drop dead great show at Town Hall last night....the approach served to reveal both the full force, and the utter control, of his singing… as well as how rare his timbre remains"
- New York Daily News

"Cornell...carried the entire show with ease, demonstrating just how capable he is of commanding a stage all by himself. He was an absolute powerhouse, belting out songs with a voice that rocked the rafters" - Seattle Post-Intelligencer

"The two-hour, nearly two-dozen-song performance was a master class in the fine art of solo performance…he wove tender folk-tinged ballads, hard-rock torch songs, and soaring anthems into a cohesive whole, telling a few tales in between, ‘Storytellers’-style" - Boston Globe

"It was a powerful concert, gathering momentum and evoking more emotion as it progressed" - Boston Herald

Grunge icon Chris Cornell is excited to announce a set of European 'Songbook' dates this Summer. Fans in the UK and across Europe will get the chance to see Chris perform unplugged, up close and personal.

The much-anticipated acoustic 'Songbook' tour provides fans with an intimate "Storytellers" like setting where Cornell easily interacts with his audience and shares insights about his music. Cornell states, "Songbook was created for my fans".

The tour will kick off in Dublin on June 13th after Soundgarden's second to headline slot at Download Festival on Sunday 10th June. The 'Songbook' tour highlights Chris Cornell’s entire catalogue, including Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog. Familiar songs emerge in a new context that showcases the depth and breadth of Chris Cornell's songwriting talents.

Ranked as "one of the best voices in music history", Cornell has successfully maintained his own unique identity over more than two decades as a multi-Grammy award winning musician, Golden Globe nominee and universally acclaimed singer, songwriter and lyricist.

Chris Cornell released 'Songbook' last year to wide critical acclaim. The album includes the song 'The Keeper' which was nominated for a Golden Globe award in 2012.

Dark Horses Announce Single 'Radio' (23rd July, Last Gang Records)

DARK HORSES RELEASE THEIR NEW SINGLE 'RADIO' ON 23RD JULY 2012

Fronted by Swedish siren Lisa Elle, a holy communion of Grace Slick and Siouxsie Sioux, Dark Horses are a leather-clad, neo rock outfit, whose name is proudly emblazons upon their black motorcycle jackets… gang chic style, along with the band’s motif… the mysterious red pyramid and the all seeing eye. Dark Horses come across as Stooges meets the Manson Family, mixed with Andy Warhol’s Factory art collective. And this only fuels the band’s mystique. Whatever the fuck they are.

All you need to know is… Dark Horses mean it.

Dark Horses will perform at the Electrowerkz on Wednesday 13th June’12 where they will present their own unique blend of Banshee’s guitar invocation, mixed with an healthy dose of Krautrock. Having already done tours with both Kasabian and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in the not too distant pass, this will be a night, I promise you won’t want to miss.

Dark Horses are:
Lisa Elle: Vocals/Harmonica – Bobby Waterson: Guitar/Organ – Andy Bang: Guitar – Steve Ingham: Drums – Harry Bohay-Nowell: Electric bass – Tommy Chain – Percussion/Chains – Ali Tollervey: Camera

Mummy when I grow up, can I be a Dark Horse?

Dntel Unveils Video For 'Still' Feat. Baths, New Album 'Aimlessness' Released 4th June

Album collaborations also include Nite Jewel

www.pamparecords.com

Electronic legend Dntel - aka Jimmy Tamborello – has unveiled a new video for latest album track 'Still' Feat. Baths. 'Still' is taken from Dntel's forthcoming new album 'Aimlessness', set for release on the 4th June through Pampa Records. This twelve track warm electronic odyssey also features collaborations with Nite Jewel (on 'Santa Ana Winds') and a further cameo from Baths (under his Geotic name for the 'Jitters' remix).
Watch the spacey video for 'Still' here, as premiered by Stereogum last night: http://vimeo.com/42570183

Download Dntel's exclusive mix for Inverted Audio and read about the making of 'Aimlessness' here: http://www.inverted-audio.com/dntel/

Download another album track 'Bright Night': http://soundcloud.com/pamparecords/dntel-bright-night
Pop and electronica eye each with mutual curiosity: the latter longs to get stuck in a listener’s head like a pop song, the former longs to incorporate the exuberant sonic richness of electronic sounds. From his home base in Los Angeles, Dntel has transformed this mutual desire into an inexhaustible love affair. The magical, unforgettable melodies and strange, outlandish sounds of his music generate an intimate, unique universe.
From its earliest moments, Aimlessness transports the listener to the middle of the Dntel universe.

The opening song, 'waitingfortherest II' is Dntel’s foam birth: inexorable electronic sounds breathe life into a body, an emotional world. 'Jitters' explores the way childish naivety can evolve into presumption, how helplessness and implacability work together. 'Still' featuring Baths, is a pop monument whose haunting vocals are ripped from the noisy electronic sounds like the gusts of a storm. In 'Puma' the inclusion of jubilant strings annuls the austerity of looped Steve-Reich-like chords; in “Santa Ana Winds” Nite Jewel’s voice shines like a glacier in the winter sun. The intrinsically quiet sounds of the album are interrupted by the playful game console bleeps and swinging rock groove of 'Trudge'. The album fades away with the graceful 'Paper Landscape' in which sublime fanfare sounds sampled from krautrock heroes Popol Vuh are interwoven with playful analog synth beeps.

With the 2001 album 'Life is Full of Possibilities', Dntel established himself as one of the most important figures in the glitch scene, which has infused electronic music with new dynamism and complexity. Unforgettable songs like 'Anywhere Anyone' won him a loyal fan base. Since then, Dntel has explored many different moods and worlds of emotion in numerous releases. As much as a certain degree of solitude and perhaps even isolation is a condition of his music, he has never been satisfied sitting alone in the blue glow of his laptop. The list of singers with whom he’s collaborated reads like a who’s who of West Coast indie music. As part of the band Figurine, he developed an at times charmingly bewitching, at times absurdly silly electropop sound. Together with Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, he started The Postal Service, whose song 'Such Great Heights' was featured on Rolling Stone’s 100 Best Songs of the past Decade. It caused a small sensation when Nirvana’s former label Sup Pop signed Tamborello as its sole electronic act, but it also took the artist somewhat out of sight of his European fans. Not so for Pampa Records founder DJ Koze, who met Tamborello after playing a gig in Los Angeles. Together, they decided to release Dntel’s fascinating Enya remixes on Pampa, but legal issues intervened and Tamborello released the tracks online instead. But the artists stayed in touch. As Tamborello began recording 'Aimlessness', Koze assumed the role of transatlantic counterpart, helping the artist mold the exuberant flow of ideas into tracks and the tracks into an album.

One wonders how this so very otherworldly music fits into one’s idea of L.A. Tamborello's home base in L.A. is the public radio station dublab, where he produces the weekly Dying Songs broadcast. L.A. to some is not just about endless freeways, perpetually good weather and, lately, mainstream dubstep. From Van Dyke Parks to Pavement, from the Dead Kennedys to Dr. Dre, California pop music has long fascinated listeners with its emotional depth. In much the same way, Dntel pulls us into an improbable maelstrom of beautiful iridescent melodies and never before heard electronic sounds.

Deer Shed Festival 3 - by a family for the family

DEER SHED FESTIVAL 3

Put on by a family for the family with old-fashioned hospitality at its heart

Headlined by Saint Etienne, Villagers and Cherry Ghost

Weekend tickets just £69

July 20th – 22nd 2012
Baldersby Park, Topcliffe, North Yorkshire
www.deershedfestival.com / www.facebook.com/DeerShed / @DeerShed

The Deer Shed Festival family know it can be the small things that make or break a festival experience – hours of car park tailbacks, nothing for the kids to do when they’ve woken up early or stewards unable to point people in the right direction. When Oliver and Kate Jones decided to put on their first festival in 2010, getting the little things right was going to be just as important as a line-up of bands to reflect their record collection. From year one, an easy arrival, catering for the needs of each guest no matter what age and good old fashioned hospitality was as key as booking bands they love to see live. Thinking about what they like and want when they go to a festival, listening to audience feedback and most importantly, passing the Jones Children Approval Panel (which generally takes place over tea) has meant each year, Deer Shed Festival has added to the finishing touches that make the weekend such a lovely place to be for all the family.

In 2012 getting set up at Deer Shed Festival will be a breeze. Just off the A1, with easy parking and Mr Trolley on hand for those wanting to rent some ground transportation for the weekend, families will quickly be pitching their tents while ticket exchange teams roam the campsite wrist-banding guests. For those choosing to come by train, a limited shuttle service will run from Thirsk station which is only a couple of hours from London and Edinburgh. An army of stewards, scouts and volunteers will be on hand all weekend to assist with everything from tent pitching to locating workshops. Clothed in tangerine t-shirts, these Assistance Officers/Comfort Facilitators/Help Technicians (but most importantly, friendly faces) take customer service very seriously! Many come to the festival with their own families and know what it’s like to have kids in tow and how far a little bit of help can go.

Welfare has a home in the actual deer shed on site – changing facilities, a microwave to heat food and a nursing area means even the newest mums and youngest family members are looked after. The Deer Shed Dining Hall comes equipped with high chairs and for the first time there will be refreshments in the campsite available – including breakfast delivery to tents! Sellers roving the campsite will be offering pastries from the Thomas’ of York bakery. At the end of a fun-filled day, after the campsite storyteller has worked some magic and children are asleep in the family camping area, the late-night cocktail and hot cider bar for the grown-ups comes to life. For adults sneaking in during the day, there’ll be table service. A wide variety of food vendors and drink will be available in the Main Arena including pizza cooked in a converted steam train oven, more veggie options than previous years and just three quid for a pint of beer. To keep festival goers feeling their best, homeopaths can remedy their ills. Showers will be trialled at Deer Shed Festival this year and there will be a higher than average ratio of large size loos to make it easier for families needing to take their little ones in. Plus eco loos to help the festival do its bit for the environment.

Deer Shed Festival allows children to roam and spread their wings while their parents take a break from everyday life and get back to what’s important – hanging out with their loved ones having fun. With tickets selling faster this year than before, it’s easy to see why this family-friendly festival in North Yorkshire has struck a chord.

Shortlisted for the Best Family-Festival at the UK Festival Awards 2011, this is an independent festival run by a family for the family. The Deer Shed Festival team book bands they love, work with like-minded people, keep it chilled, don’t squeeze a thousand tents into a field the size of a postage stamp and don’t charge a fortune.
The Darkness announce tracklisting and post new track

THE DARKNESS return this summer with the eagerly awaited release of their third album ‘Hot Cakes’ on 20th August 2012. Today the band made album opener ‘Every Inch of You’ immediately available via a lyric video posted at www.theactualdarkness.com and the track appearing on iTunes worldwide, providing an excellent taster of what to expect from the third album by this remarkable and unique rock band.

The Darkness have also today revealed the full tracklist for the album, and it looks like this:
Every Inch of You / Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us / With A Woman / Keep Me Hangin’ On
Living Every Day Blind / Everybody Have A Good Time / She Just A Girl Eddie
Forbidden Love / Concrete / Street Spirit (Fade Out) / Love Is Not The Answer

On the subject of the album, vocalist / guitarist Justin Hawkins commented: "’Hot Cakes’ has a nice raw feel to it like the first album had, with occasional luxurious moments akin to the second. We're proud of the songs and we can't wait for people to hear them. We've been playing some tracks for the album in tour, each time we play a new song it feels like a deep powerful thrust in a frenzied love ritual between us and our fans. August 20th really will be a sweet release for all concerned.

We included the Radiohead cover because it has been a live favourite for many moons, and we wanted to release a definitive recording of our interpretation.

Best of all, ‘Hot Cakes’ has got even more songs on it than what ‘Permission To Land’ and ‘One Way Ticket To Hell And Back had’. But not if you put them both together."

The album is released via PIAS (UK and world ex-North & South America) and Wind Up (North & South America) on 20th August. The band reformed last year and made their comeback with some club shows and a spectacular show at the Download Festival in front of 70,000 fans. Sold out tours of the UK, US and Australia followed before putting the final touches to the album which was produced by Justin and Dan Hawkins along with their long-time collaborator, Nick Brine and mixed by Bob Ezrin.

The band start their summer festival season with a show in Trondheim, Norway this Saturday 2nd June. At time of writing, The Darkness' only UK headline show for 2012 is their outdoor 'hometown' event in Thetford Forest, Suffolk on 14th July (with special guests Black Stone Cherry). The band will then head across Europe and the UK as special guests of Lady Gaga on her 'Born This Way Ball' tour.

Track - 'Every Inch Of You' - available now
Album – ‘Hot Cakes’ – 20th August

For the avoidance of doubt, The Darkness remains:
Justin Hawkins, Dan Hawkins, Frankie Poullain, Ed Graham.
