With her album ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ sitting at number 1 in the UK charts Caro Emerald announces the release of ‘Liquid Lunch’, a fun and witty pop tune delivered in Caro’s distinctively sassy retro style.

Radio 2’s “Record Of The Week”, ‘Liquid Lunch’ is the second single to be taken from ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’, Caro’s second album and her first to hit the British top spot - her debut album, 2010’s ‘Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor’ peaked at number 4 selling more than 400,000 copies.

Where ‘Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor’ took its inspiration from the Hollywood cinema and the glitz and glamour of the jazz scene, ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ is inspired by the epicentre of style, romance, excitement and dangerous liaisons – Paris. As Caro explains “I read about a Parisian designer from the early 1900s. Her clothes became so famous that, when she died, nobody noticed for a year because everyone was still talking about her. We looked at the arts scene in Paris at the time, the music, the photography, the fashion. I was so inspired that I co-wrote one of the songs, The Maestro, about Karl Lagerfeld.”

While the essence of ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ is rooted in the past, the sound - complete with samples, scratching and beats - is thoroughly modern, “I would call it a fun mix of vintage jazz, beats and pop” explains Caro. The Amsterdam Conservatory trained jazz vocalist is an original pop star with the look of a Hollywood icon of yesteryear, a voice that oozes warmth and fun, and a collection of exciting, catchy signature songs that have connected with fans throughout Europe. ‘The Shocking Miss Emerald’ also entered the Dutch charts at number 1 this week, following the precedent set by ‘Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor’ which subsequently spent a record-breaking 30 weeks at number 1.

Having sold out her March UK tour (including a night at the Royal Albert Hall) Caro recently announced a 14 date September tour which is already sold out. Caro recently appeared on This Morning and BBC Breakfast on May 14th before performing at Hello Magazine’s 25th Anniversary celebrations in London this week.

Alexandra Burke 'postpones' Royal Albert Hall residency

Songstress Alexandra Burke has revealed that her forthcoming 6-show residency at the Royal Albert Hall in London (June 2013) has been postponed due to 'overwhelming demand'.

Tweeting about the disappointing news this afternoon (May 16), the 'Broken Heels' hitmaker apologised for letting people down: "Hi, I'm afraid we're postponing the Royal Albert Hall shows until later in the year. Sorry for any disappointment. I'll tweet the statement."

Burke was supposed to play a run of dates at the venue's Elgar Room, where she was set to perform the soundtrack to 1972 Billie Holiday biopic 'Lady Sings The Blues', in which Diana Ross played the singer, but an official statement confirms that the dates are no longer going ahead:

"Due to an overwhelming demand for tickets, Alexandra Burke has decided to postpone her June 'Lady Sings The Blues' concerts and re-schedule the performances for later this year, at additional venues. Tickets for the six dates at the Royal Albert Hall's Elgar Room sold out within hours, with many fans disappointed, so these new dates, to be announced soon, will allow more fans to see and enjoy the shows."

Duffy's close bond with her music producer

Duffy has revealed that she has such a close bond with her current music producer, Albert Hammond, that he feels "like a dad" to her.

The 'Warwick Avenue' singer became friends with Hammond - father of The Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. - after he wrote songs for her new album.

The 26-year-old star said: "I feel lucky I've found someone I can put pen to paper with. I write songs - melodic poems, really - and I can't do anything with them because I can't play guitar. He can put together this thing that I hear in my head. He's become a bit like my dad, you know."

The singer explained that she instantly felt a connection with the lyrical subject matter that Hammond had written for her.

She said: "He made contact a couple of years ago when he saw me on the TV. I was a bit alone at the time - life was a bit big and scary - and he told me he had a song titled 'Don't Forsake Me', and it felt like he'd come up with a title for my life."

Duffy's debut album 'Rockferry' sold 6.5 million copies. Her second LP 'Endlessly' is due to be released on November 29.
