Manic Street Preachers Break Two-Year Hiatus for One-Off Exclusive Performance at Festival No.6

Festival No.6 is excited to announce that Welsh trio Manic Street Preachers have been persuaded to end their self-imposed two-year exile to headline one of the nights at this year’s event, which will be a UK festival exclusive.

The cover of their fifth studio album This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours was shot in 1998 on the beach at Portmeirion, North Wales – home of Festival No.6. This year’s festival falls on the 15thanniversary of the album’s release, all of which helped to convince the Manics to appear at what promises to be an astonishing homecoming.

Manic Street Preachers said: “Festival No.6 is the only thing that could break our self-enforced two year British gig ban. To be able to play in Sir Clough Williams-Ellis’ iconic village is something of a dream for us. See you in September.”

The musical bill at Festival No.6 - recently named Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards and Best Small Festival at the NME Awards

- will again combine a blend of iconic acts alongside the freshest emerging talent and a stunning DJ line-up. Other live acts confirmed in the first wave of announcements for 2013 include James Blake, Everything Everything, I Am Kloot, AlunaGeorge, Laura Mvula, Mount Kimbie, Caitlin Rose, Chapel Club and Dutch Uncles.

A selection of the stellar DJ acts confirmed so far include Frankie Knuckles, Carl Craig, Andrew Weatherall, Gilles Peterson, Justin Robertson, Greg Wilson, Maxxi Soundsystem, Unabombers and Futureboogie.

Arts and culture is another integral part of Festival No.6, and this year’s line-up is even stronger. Guests include John Cooper Clarke, the punk poet who is now a national treasure, name-checked by everyone from Alex Turner to Plan B, plus Man Booker Prize winner DBC Pierre, award-winning novelist and Times columnist Caitlin Moran and author and Review Show critic Paul Morley.

Other highlights include talks and readings from Tracey Thorn (Everything but the Girl), John Niven (Kill Your Friends), Bob Stanley (Saint Etienne) and Michael Smith (The Culture Show) as well as the return of the wonderful Jan Morris, one of the highlights of last year’s No.6.

Festival co-founder Gareth Cooper said: “We’re delighted and very proud that we’ve managed to entice one of the biggest Welsh bands of all time to end their hiatus and play Festival No.6. There’s a wonderful synchronicity in the fact that this year’s event falls on the 15th anniversary of one of the Manics’s greatest albums This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours. The cover of that record was shot on the beach at Portmeirion, which makes it all the more special. We feel it’s important to maintain Welsh heritage within our line up and entertainment and there is no bigger way to do it than by booking this band!”

Last year’s event saw thousands of awestruck guests converge on the peaceful shores of the Welsh wonderland of Portmeirion, where the ocean, mountains and forests create the festival’s perimeter. The filming location of cult 60s TV show The Prisoner is a fantasyland of whimsical Italianate architecture overlooking the rolling estuary waters of the Irish Sea.

Such was the success of its inaugural year that Festival No.6 was named Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards, whilst 2012 headliners New Order walked away with the prize for Best Headline Performance. More recently it was voted Best Small Festival in a public poll at the NME Awards.

Guests in 2013 can look forward to another year of outstanding musical acts, ethereal scenery, breathtaking architecture and enchanting distractions at a UK festival location like no other!

More artists, attractions, activities and VERY SPECIAL GUESTS to be announced soon!

Overall, Justice, who are signed to Ed Banger, have received the most, with 7 nominations across New Lands, On ‘n’ On and Audio Video Disco. Another label to have received multiple nominations is Ram Records, who have won 3 for their Delta Heavy videos for Get By and Hold Me.

Last year’s Video of the Year directors Daniels dominate the Indie Rock International category with 3 videos – Foster the People’s Houdini, Tenacious D’s Rize of the Fenix and The Shins’ Simple Song.

Other directors spotlighted by the Awards this year include Romain Gavras’ videos for M.I.A (Bad Girls) and Jay-Z & Kanye West (No Church in the Wild), both of which have picked up multiple nominations and Yoann Lemoine’s Woodkid (Run Boy Run) and Lana del Rey (Blue Jeans, Born to Die) videos. Fellow British director Emil Nava sees his videos for Rita Ora, Ed Sheeran and Paloma Faith nominated in the Best Pop and Best Urban categories. Both are up for the Best Director award.

The UK Music Video Awards and VEVO have also got together to allow the fans to vote for their favourite British video of the past year with The People's Choice Award. Eighteen videos by nine different artists are in the running in the People's Choice Award - to be revealed on Tuesday, October 16th, when the Award is launched on VEVO's website, and the VEVO Facebook page.

The MVAs 2012 is the premier awards show dedicated to innovation and creativity in music video, the medium that has become the audio-visual entertainment of choice for the YouTube/VEVO and social media generation.

The UK Music Video Awards editorial director, David Knight, says, “It’s a fascinating period for music videos as a creative medium. Technology, the internet and social media continues to change how music videos are made and how they are consumed. They are central to people’s lives again, a huge source of entertainment – and sometimes awe and wonder.

“And the MVAs has become a globally-recognised event for celebrating the outstanding creative work in music videos in the UK and around the world. Last year filmmakers travelled from Europe and the United States to attend our biggest show ever. It was a very good night indeed – and I’m sure the fifth MVAs will be the best one yet.

Myspace Gets Intimate with Artists in "One-Two-Watch™" Series kicking off with Emeli Sandé

Myspace (www.myspace.com) announced today that it plans to serialize its highly successful intimate music interviews, featuring a unique format that combines never-before-seen footage and personally revealing interviews with new and emerging artists. Dubbed "One-Two-Watch," the series debuts today on the social entertainment destination, offering a rare glimpse into U.K. sensation Emeli Sande on and off the stage.

The new "One-Two-Watch" episode delves into the Scottish-born singer and songwriter's propulsion to fame in the U.K., offering an in-depth look at the rising star and portraying her first-ever show on American soil. The vocalist was named Critic's Choice at the Brit Awards this year and will be in the U.S. this summer opening for Coldplay, with whom she toured the U.K. in December, in a series of arena shows.

Sande, who is coming off a string of well-received shows in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Minneapolis as part of her North American debut, is one of the handpicked talents that Myspace has identified as a key artist with a unique sound, set to influence new music.

"Myspace was always the place where music fans could hear what was new. I'm excited to see the brand refocus on this with the 'One-Two-Watch' series," said Scott Vener (@brokemogul), lead curator for Myspace.
