SnakeMary Unveil the First Single off Debut Album

With the hugely talented guitarist and songwriter Kevin Barber at the helm, the band was formed with the intention to make the record he had always intended to. Relocating from sunny L.A. to Suffolk, Barber began piecing the album together and auditioning for the all important role of lead singer. This proving to be worthless, yielding only pub singers and X Factor wannabes, it was a chance trip to Germany which completed the band’s formation. Attending a jam session in the slightly seedy area of Neukolln, Barber discovered the talented Beccy Brennan. The skilled singer and vocal coach had the perfect voice for the project, a combination of Etta James and Janis Joplin. She took to the material and later introduced her partner Damon Sawyer to the project, a recording engineer and session drummer who has played with the likes of Paul Rodgers.

‘Lay By The River’ marks the band’s first single and a culmination to their journey. Showcasing the band’s range of talents, the single blends catchy blues guitar riffs, chugging bass lines and Brennan’s cool vocals. Evoking elements of the great blues guitarists, such artists as Buddy Guy, Rory Gallagher and Joe Bonamassa can all be heard. The band’s experience within the industry is also immediately perceptible as first-class musicianship is coupled with great material.

A glimpse into the band’s upcoming full-length album ’11 17’, the single will certainly whet the appetite for this record. ‘Lay By The River’ will be released on June 10th.

Amy Winehouse's mother believes singer has returned as a butterfly

Amy Winehouse's mother Janis has opened up on life since her daughter died.

The singer sadly passed away last year but her mother believes that Amy is still here in spirit.

Speaking to Hello! magazine, Janis Winehouse said that she thinks her daughter could have returned as a butterfly - because she would enjoy the "freedom of flying".

She also revealed that a butterfly flew into Amy's funeral whilst father Mitch was giving a reading. She said:

"Just knowing that [she is still with us] gives me strength. I'm pretty sure she has come back as a butterfly because she would love the freedom of flying. [At her funeral] Mitch was giving the eulogy and a butterfly flew in. I think it was a red admiral because, when they close their wings, they are black. The butterfly settled on Kelly Osbourne, then flew around Mitch."

She added: "Also, we were at JFK airport in New York shortly after she died. We were eating some food when, all of a sudden, one of Amy's songs came on and a feather dropped onto our table."

Introducing Carly Connor - Live Upstairs in Whelan's on Monday 27 February

One to watch for 2012, Scottish singer-songwriter Carly Connor will perform her debut Irish headline show Upstairs in Whelan’s on Monday 27 February.

Tickets €11.50 including booking fee are on sale from this Monday, 12 December at Ticketmaster outlets nationwide and online at www.ticketmaster.ie.

19 year old Carly Connor hails from Easterhouse in Glasgow. Based in London for the last two years, Carly has worked hard at her songwriting craft as much as she has on her live performances and the amount of gigs already done across the UK & Europe is impressive.

Carly is a star in the making with a unique, powerful voice. Taking influence from Janis Joplin and early (Ike &) Tina Turner – Carly has the knack for writing heart felt lyrics for someone so young – her early years and upbringing in a tough part of Glasgow have certainly made a lifelong imprint in Carly’s emotional DNA – and that certainly comes through in her music.

No stranger to Ireland Carly has opened for Paolo Nutini on past shows here and also performed as part of Arthurs Day earlier this year.

Carly Connor’s debut album is due for release in Spring 2012.
