Backstreet Boys on One Direction covering their music: 'It's great to see them pay homage to us'

American heartthrobs the Backstreet Boys have admitted that it was an honour to hear UK based singers One Direction performing a cover of their hit, 'I Want It That Way', during a recent concert in Sweden.

Member Howie Dorough told MTV News that to see a new group paying homage to an act as established as themselves was great as it's important to acknowledge music's history:

"I think they did a good job on it. One of the writers, that's written almost all their big stuff, Rami Yacoub, he worked with us in the early days with Max Martin and stuff like that, some of the biggest songs of ours. The sound that they've originated was definitely not too far from where it came, from the same Swedish camp."

"It's nice to see groups like that pay homage to us. We definitely paid homage to groups in the earlier days that we admired like Boyz II Men, Color Me Badd, Shai, New Edition." Dorough added: "So it's cool. I think they did a great job. It seemed like it went over really well."

UK based girl group Little Mix have revealed that before they went over to the USA they got in touch with boyband One Direction for some advice on how to do well stateside.

Speaking to Seventeen magazine, the 'Wings' ladies explained that because the lads have enjoyed such amazing success in America they wanted to know how to approach trying to launch their career there so asked for some words of encouragement:

"I asked the boys from One Direction how to make it in America and they basically said, 'Be yourself and you can't go wrong'. People know when you're trying to be someone you're not."

Singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock added: "Just be true to who you are. So that's what we've been doing!"

Meanwhile, Little Mix took to their official Twitter page earlier today (May 20) and told their American fans that Amazon is streaming their debut album now so that they can listen to it in full: "US Fans! Wanna listen to DNA before it comes out? @Amazon is streaming the FULL album."

'Shine Ya Light' beauty Rita Ora has admitted that she's so glad not to have taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest when she was 17 as it never does anything positive for anyone's music career.

2013's Eurovision took place over the weekend (May 18) and saw the UK's entry, which was 'Believe In Me' by Bonnie Tyler (pictured below), finishing in 19th place. Ora told British magazine Event that she initially saw the opportunity as a chance to sing in front of the world, but soon realised it was a bad idea:

"I did it because I thought it was a chance to sing, but then I felt inside that it wasn't right for me. I was chosen to perform and sang Ain't No Sunshine in front of people like Andrew Lloyd Webber and got through to the next stage (of the auditions)."

"I was incredibly nervous because I was just 17 and I was making this really big decision to pull out. Amazingly, the BBC producers were unbelievably kind and supportive, which made me feel more sure of myself artistically. I wasn't going because I had another option, I was going because it wasn't right."

Demi Lovato blames lack of 'regular-sized' female role models for eating disorder

Songstress Demi Lovato has revealed that a lack of positive role models when going through her teen years contributed to the development of her eating disorder along with other issues.

During a personal interview with Nightline, the 'Skyscraper' beauty explained that celebrities she looked up to were all very thin, which both created and fed an unhealthy expectation of her own body:

"When I was growing up, I had no-one to look up to in the spotlight that was a regular-sized girl. This was the time when socialites were very, very thin and were going to clubs, and that's what I had on my wall - I had pictures of these girls that were so tiny."

She also opened up about going to rehab and explained that she was at the point where it was her only option, but looking back she's glad she recognised that she needed help:

"I knew that I was in trouble and I knew that I couldn't do it on my own. The difference is now when I don't want to eat or I want to throw up after a meal, I tell somebody, and that instantly takes away the power of what that has on me if I were to do it."

Towards the end of the interview, Lovato added that if Lindsay Lohan ever needs support while she's experiencing a stay in rehab she would gladly help her: "I love Lindsay. She's one of my friends and I will always be there if she ever reaches out, but it's not my place to give her words of advice. I can't sit here and say that I am Miss Recovery, that I'll be that way for the rest of my life."

'Die Young' songstress Ke$ha has opened up about her admiration of vocal sensation Beyoncé in a new interview with Look magazine.

Speaking about the 'Halo' superstar's documentary film, 'Life Is But A Dream', in comparison with her own ('My Crazy Beautiful Life'), Ke$ha revealed that after watching it she was so impressed with her work ethic, talent and ability to show her true self to the world:

"I think she might actually be perfect. I show my flaws - they're real. I don't have a perfect body. It's important for girls to see that don't have to be perfect."

She also joked that her text-message based friendship with One Direction's Harry Styles is purely platonic as she's terrified of the group's fans:

"Oh no! He and I are just friends. Actually we started texting a long time ago and we're just friendly, it's not sexy. I hope the One Direction fans don't want to beat me up. I'm just a fan too."

Daft Punk: "Music that's being done today has lost its magic and poetry"

Daft Punk believe today's music is too reliant on technology and has "lost its magic" as a result.

The French duo released new album 'Random Access Memories' today (May 20) in the UK and the record has seen the pair use real musicians and an orchestra.

Speaking to the Observer, Thomas Bangalter said that he believes today's music is lacking "human creativity" and is stifled. He said:

"The music that's being done today has lost its magic and its poetry because it's rooted in everyday life and is highly technological. Then you have this classic repertoire of great music that feels like it's coming from this other, timeless place. We wanted to say that these classic albums that were ambitious in scope don't just belong to the past."

He added: "Computers aren't really music instruments, and the only way to listen to it is on a computer as well. Human creativity is the ultimate interface. It's much more powerful than the mouse or the touch screen."

As previously reported, Daft Punk's hit single 'Get Lucky' topped the UK chart last night (May 19) for its fourth straight week.

Miguel kicks fan in head after ill-timed stage leap at Billboard Awards

Miguel has opened up on a dramatic stage incident at the Billboard Music Awards last night (May 19) in which he accidentally landed on two fans.

The singer was performing at the Las Vegas event when he decided to jump over the crowd onto another part of the stage.

However, it didn't go to plan and one of his feet kicked a female fan in the head, whilst another member of the audience's arm was hit.

Miguel was left sprawled out on the stage as he sang the song, with the audience looking on in bemusement and shock.

Speaking to Billboard about the incident, the singer revealed that he apologised for the accident and has since become friends with one of victims. Standing alongside the fan, he said:

"Well, I think it's kind of clear what happened. But I'm very happy to bring my new friend, Khyati, we just met. Unfortunately we did not meet under the best circumstances, but I think we're Ok. The crazy thing is, when you're performing and you're just kind of into it, you never know where it's gonna go and where you're gonna go with it, and how that might turn out. So this is one of the less favourable moments. [I] got caught up in the moment, thank goodness Khyati is Ok."

Justin Bieber was seemingly booed during an acceptance speech at last night's (May 19) Billboard Music Awards.

As previously reported, the singer won three awards at the Las Vegas ceremony - Top Male Artist, Top Social Artist and Milestone.

When he collected the latter gong, he asked for people to concentrate on his music and not the other "bullsh*t". The 'Believe' star said:

"I'm 19 years old. I think I'm doing a pretty good job. From my heart, I really just want to say, it should really be about the music, it should be about the craft that I'm making. This is not a gimmick. I'm an artist, and I should be taken seriously, and all this other bullsh*t should not be spoken of."

However, it appears that the singer was booed by some sections of the crowd as he asked to be taken seriously.

Bieber seemed largely nonplussed after the event, tweeting: "Grateful to my #Beliebers. Our awards. Love u. I love music, my fans, my family, my friends..And I love The Lord."
