Nicki Minaj credits Madonna as major influence on career

Nicki Minaj has cited Madonna as the major influence on her career.

The 29-year-old, who alongside M.I.A., performed with the Queen of Pop at this year’s Superbowl and on the single, ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’,’ told US TV show 'Today' that she is even more impressed with the superstar after meeting her in person.

“I had the pleasure of working with her, obviously, and I feel like she’s really changed and reinvented not only herself but pop culture.

“So what inspired me about Madonna is that she’s able to balance all of this with her family and her personal life. I was like, ‘how do you do this, you know, with your children’ and she’s a great mom. you know, she’s just everything.”

The ‘Super Bass’ star, who is set to knock Madonna’s ‘MDNA’ off the UK number one spot with her second studio effort, ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,’ later today, also revealed how Marilyn Monroe inspired her to write the album track of the same name.

Asked about the sex siren, she said: “It was just like a longing for something, like a longing for approval. I feel like a lot of women in power, or successful women, as successful as they are, they have that desire to still be loved, to still be always, you know, great, to still be approved. And, it’s like no matter how many times you tell them they’re great, they don’t believe it.”

Madonna criticises MIA's Super Bowl gesture

Madonna has been moved to criticise MIA's middle finger gesture at the weekend (February 5).

As previously reported, MIA appeared to flip her middle finger towards the camera during her performance with Madonna, with millions watching the event.

Speaking to 'On Air with Ryan Seacrest', Madonna said that she "wasn't happy" when she heard about the gesture, calling it an "irrelevant" thing to do. She said:

"I was really surprised. I didn't know anything about it. I wasn't happy about it. I understand it's punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity it seemed negative. It's such a teenager…irrelevant thing to do…there was such a feeling of love and unity there what was the point? It was just out of place."

Madonna was also moved to deny suggestion that Britney Spears had collaborated with the Queen of Pop on her new track 'Girls Gone Wild'. She said:

"No, it's just little ol' me."

M.I.A.'s performance alongside Madonna at last night's Super Bowl Halftime Show went smoothly until she flipped off the camera crew that was filming the live set.

The 'Paper Planes' star was caught giving the middle finger during 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' and American television bosses at NBC have been quick to apologise for the "inappropriate gesture".

NBC spokesman Christopher McCloskey said:

"We apologise for the inappropriate gesture that aired during half time. It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late."

Despite this minor setback, M.I.A. was excited about joining the Queen of Pop onstage to showcase their collaborative new single and tweeted about her arrival at the Lucas Oil Stadium earlier that day:

"MIA in the buildin, jus [sic] walked in same time as The Giants, they in suits and black briefcases, that sh*t crayyyyyyy."

Today M.I.A.'s video for her brand new track, "Bad Girls," premieres exclusively on Noisey -- VICE's new music channel on YouTube.

Watch the video for "Bad Girls" on Noisey now here or below this press release.

"It was dope to have so many people from so many different backgrounds speaking so many different languages come together to create something that we believed in," says M.I.A about the video. "I thought I was gonna die on the shoot when I saw the drifting. It was a four day shoot so everyone was on edge the whole time specifically ME when I had to do bluesteel singing to the camera while the cars did doughnuts on the wet road ten feet away. In my mind I was thinking how I was gonna deliver the video to Vice with no legs."

The track "Bad Girls" was released via all major digital retail outlets January 31st following a well-received premiere on Pitchfork January 30th.

REACTION TO "BAD GIRLS"

"Her pop instincts and talents remain as sharp as ever." - Pitchfork

"It's got all the hallmarks of a M.I.A. song: Punjabi-tinged production, deadpan delivery, booming drums, lyrics about having sex in cars, etc. This is some real hype shit! Turn it up and go punch a cop. I'm betting this new one will break her all over again." – Black Book Mag

Beyoncé’s ‘Till The End of Time’ leaks

Just in time for the alleged rapture, Beyoncé’s new song ‘Till The End of Time’ has leaked in full.

The star stunned fans this week with the release of her visceral vid for ‘Run The World (Girls)’ and it seems her new edgy M.I.A.-esque sound doesn’t stop with that single.

‘Till The End of Time’ features an extremely understated backing track, with marching reverb-drenched snare and soaring choral vocals that alternatively clash and harmonize over stabbing brass interjections. It's an epic that will please fans without relaxing into unsatisfying formulae.

The song is the second to be lifted from the star’s upcoming album ‘4’ and is sure to generate a wealth of buzz over the release.

Check out the leaked tune below:
