Morrissey: 'The reports of my death have been greatly understated'

Rocker Morrissey has admitted that having to cancel shows as a result of a bleeding ulcer was a tough decision to make, but he has been receiving treatment and plans to make it up to his fans soon.

The singer was forced to pull out of dates on his U.S. tour after suffering unpleasant symptoms and wrote an open letter to his fans (January 31), in which he explained that he could "die with a smile on my face" if they forgive him and still come to the rescheduled and remaining shows:

"The reports of my death have been greatly understated. Once admitted to the William Beaumont Hospital at Royal Oak in Michigan, I received treatment for concussion, a bleeding ulcer, and Barrett's esophagus. The positive from all of this is that there are now no known ailments left for me to try."

"I am fully determined to resume the tour on February 9 at the Chelsea Ballroom in Las Vegas. If there's an audience of any kind in attendance, I just might die with a smile on my face, after all. If I am not there, I shall probably never again be anywhere. Equally, I am determined to play Flint (Michigan) if it kills me (which, on the face of it, it almost has.)"

He continued with the somewhat morbid speech, adding that he's enjoyed some fantastic live shows recently and asked his listeners to "pause at my headstone" before signing off:

"Thank you to everyone present at both Brooklyn (New York) and Melbourne (Australia) during recent weeks for two of the best nights of what might charitably be termed my "career". My debt to you will outlive time itself. pause at my headstone."

"Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time."

Jack White saves Detroit theatre from foreclosure

Jack White has shelled out $142,000 to save Detroit’s Masonic Temple from foreclosure.

The venue, where White has played nine times and where his mother used to work as an usher, will be renamed The Jack White Theatre in his honour.

The building is a historical landmark in Detroit, taking up an entire block of the Cass Corridor area of the city and contains shops, offices and bowling lanes in addition to the theatre. Such iconic rock acts as Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa and The Rolling Stones have played there.

White stepped in after the venue had fallen into tax debt and was threatened with foreclosure if the money wasn’t paid by the deadline of June 3rd. In the end he paid the entire outstanding balance.

"Jack's donation could not have come at a better time and we are eternally grateful to him for it," said Detroit Masonic Temple Association President Roger Sobran to the Detroit Free Press. "Jack's magnanimous generosity and unflinching loyalty to this historic building and his Detroit roots is appreciated beyond words."

Justin Bieber sued for buying penis enlargement with stolen credit card

Canadian teen sensation Justin Bieber has been slapped with a bizarre lawsuit by an unnamed man in Michigan who describes himself as an 'emotional mess'.

In court papers obtained by the celebrity gossip website TMZ, the man makes over-the-top and obviously untrue allegations about Bieber and his mentor Usher and even claims to be the father of Bieber's girlfriend, Selena Gomez:

"Bieber has cost me $426.78 and never paid me back. This money was used as abortion money because Justin Bieber got my daughter Selena pregnant in my bedroom, on my canadian bear rug."

"Usher Raymond came to my house on the forth of july 2012 and s*domized me with a firework and lit it inside my an*l area while blaring kate perry [sic] firework song in my ear drums."

The lawsuit continues: "[Bieber] gave selena a std and Bieber stole my credit card to buy him and sean p-ditty cmobs cocaine to use in drug free school zones. Bieber also got a penis enlargement with my stolen american express card."

Perhaps even more shocking is the end of the document, which reads: "I'm an emotional mess ... America must boycott biebers music."

Meanwhile, the 'Boyfriend' superstar doesn't appear to be phased by the odd news as he took to his official Twitter page earlier this afternoon (October 23) and promised his followers a night to remember: "I got a VERY SPECIAL surprise for the CHICAGO show today. this is gonna be a night no one is going to forget. #BELIEVEtour"

'Jeff Daniels & Friends' Holiday Concert Returns to Celebrate Music Made in Michigan

CHELSEA, Mich., Nov. 22, 2010 -- Michigan actor, singer, songwriter Jeff Daniels announced today that he will once again host and perform at a special concert in November celebrating unique Michigan music and homegrown musicians. The Fifth Annual "Jeff Daniels & Friends" will take place Sat., Nov. 27, 2010, at Ann Arbor's historic Michigan Theater at 8:00 pm.

This year's lineup of Michigan-bred artists includes an unusual, eclectic blend of folk, blues, strings, American Roots and, for the first time, operatic musicians. Artists include the "Saline Fiddlers," (American Folk), Saline; Rev. Robert and Bernice Jones, (American Roots), Detroit; "Ben Daniels Band," (Roots, Blues), Chelsea; Brad Phillips, (multi-instrumentals), Chelsea; Jed Fritzemeier (Chelsea's "String Guy"); and from Comerica Park, Charley Marcuse, "The Singing Hotdog Guy."

Daniels, currently on a multi-city concert tour on the East Coast, says the 'friends and family' aspect to the Thanksgivingweekend performance resounds with the audience.

"This has become one of my favorite events of the year, during a time when people naturally come together," says Daniels. "The audience behaves like a big, happy, boisterous family at Thanksgiving dinner... people are on their feet singing and dancing in the aisles. It's a crazy, festive, unusual, high-energy holiday tradition. I guarantee our guests will leave feeling good aboutMichigan music."

Daniels says the evening was modeled after an event hosted by folk legend Arlo Guthrie.

"Arlo and friends get together every year around Thanksgiving and take over Carnegie Hall in a huge celebration of folk music," says Daniels. "I wanted to do something similar here at home to celebrate some of the great artists we have in Michigan -- and as long as I am able to bring the talent together and fill the Michigan Theatre once a year -- I will."

The successful seven year run of the Purple Rose Theatre's "Jeff Daniels Live & Unplugged" shows led the entertainer to believe that what works over Christmas and New Year's could also work over the Thanksgiving weekend.

"People look for something fun to do over Thanksgiving weekend, especially while friends and family are visiting. This is a great time to get out and celebrate."

Tickets ($22.50, $37.50, $75.00) are on sale at the same cost as last year at www.ticketmaster.com 800.745.3000. Concert info:Cynthia Dunitz, Fleming Artists, 734.995.9066, cynthia@flemingartists.com. Media inquiries: Joe Rohatynski Public Relations, 313.378.6570, Joe@JoePR.com.

About (musician) Jeff Daniels: Unless you've seen his "Unplugged" concerts at the Purple Rose Theatre or in small towns at historic theatres or opera houses around the country, you may not have known that Jeff Daniels can sing and play guitar. Truth is, he can do both at the same time, and has been writing songs and playing guitar for 30+ years. His concerts and four CDs have created a new appreciation for the artist in his home state, while raising funds for the Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea.

"Songwriting began as a way of passing time on movie sets," says Daniels, who has written 400+ songs. While he has played around the U.S., Daniels' CDs and concerts continue to connect with home grown music lovers across his home state of Michigan.
