Olly Murs on US success: "I don't ever expect to reach the heights of One Direction"

Olly Murs has admitted that he'll probably never be able to reach the levels of fame One Direction have enjoyed in the US.

The boyband took North America by storm last year, with their arrival in the country likened to the Beatles.

Murs supported the 'Kiss You' stars on some of their American dates and it helped the fellow Brit to make inroads into a US career.

Speaking to the Mirror, the 'Army of Two' star admitted that he won't get as big as One Direction in the US - but he'll make a good fist of it. He said:

"In the UK, people don’t give X Factor contestants that much credit. Over in the States, they're listening to my music instead of saying 'Oh, he's from the X Factor...whatever'. I don't get the credit I deserve."

He continued: "So it's a really good thing for me. I'm able to come over here and be an artist – people are judging me on my abilities and my talent for my music. I don't ever expect to reach the heights of One Direction over here, but I believe I can be a success. And so far it's going well. It's been brilliant."

NINA NESBITT ANNOUNCES OCTOBER UK TOUR

Following the success of her Stay Out EP

Nina Nesbitt is excited to announce an October UK tour

‘the video for its perky lead track Stay Out has already racked up 1m views since it was posted on Vevo last month, and the song is a staple on Radio 1….its whip-smart lyrics about sixth-formers listening to the Rolling Stones could only have come from a teenager.’ – Sunday Times Culture

'she's got both charisma and a real talent for earnest clear-voiced folk-pop' - Time Out

'Scot singer penning infectious acoustic-pop with a bit of a grunge thrown in for good measure.' - Company

'She's cute and wholesome with a raw, punchy voice.' - We Love Pop

'Nina's songs capture an innocence that her contemporaries can't... with an army-strong fan base in the UK, big beautiful blonde locks and a sweet charm what else do you need?' – Notion

‘Nina has a lovely Scottish lilt to her crystal clear voice.’ – The Sun

It’s been a whirlwind year so far for Nina Nesbitt, the half Scottish, half Swedish singer-songwriter who has only just turned 18. After touring last year with Ed Sheeran and Example, and with a string of festival dates coming up this summer, she will be embarking on a headline tour in October.

In little over a year Nina has won the hearts of literally thousands - her twitter followers have rocketed above 85,000 and she has had over 4 million views across YouTube and VEVO to date. Her recent single ‘Stay Out’ charted at #21 and was playlisted at Radio 1.

Nina was just 16 years old when she began performing intimate shows across Edinburgh and Manchester and, with a budding interest in filmmaking, posted a selection of her own songs and some beautifully conceived cover versions on YouTube. The response she received was overwhelming. It kick started a roller coaster year that culminated with her self-released EP ‘The Apple Tree’ going straight to #6 on the iTunes download chart and #1 on the singer-songwriter chart last April. She signed to Island Records last June and released her first single ‘Boy’ in October.

Nina, who was crowned ‘Singer/Songwriter New Artist of the Year 2012’ on iTunes last year, is currently recording her debut album with Jake Gosling (Paloma Faith, Ed Sheeran, One Direction), which is due for release this summer.

Not only does Nina’s voice boast an amazing technical ability, it is passionate and emotionally raw, her colloquial lyrics heartwarmingly candid and insightful. As she prepares to hit the road, it’s clear that this is just the beginning of a very exciting journey for this immensely talented young lady.

Tour Dates

8th October The Haunt Brighton

Christina Aguilera praises the support of the LGBT community

Vocal powerhouse Christina Aguilera has confessed that the support she has received from the LGBT community over the years has given her the strength to pursue and continue her career.

Speaking to The Advocate in an interview that was posted today (November 28), the 'Your Body' hitmaker explained that it's always been a group of people she can rely on for insight and inspiration and wants to thank her gay fans for being there unconditionally:

"I cannot be more thankful for the support over the years from the community. Even when I felt I couldn’t stand, they held me up and supported me. I think we can each relate to each other and I am forever indebted."

Aguilera added that her new album 'Lotus' has a track on it that's like an anthem for her LGBT followers, named 'Army of Me', and she wanted to dedicate it to them:

"I actually feel that way, that I have an Army of Me — of people that are maybe misunderstood or don’t fit into the norm but deserve a voice and I wanted this song to be that for them."
